Class A vs Semi

Class A leaving the casino gambled one last time by pulling out in the path of a semi truck. They lost that wager.

The accident took six hours to clean up while several miles of highway were closed Friday afternoon. Lots of travelers got to see the beautiful back roads of Manistee County as emergency management folks struggled to find an alternate route for US-31 (there isn't one really.)

Tourist season is still in full swing in this area, Labor day actually kicks off a second rush, which ends around mid-November.

I wonder if the RV driver mistook the blinking red light, for a 4-way stop?? That's a nice, wide-open intersection - it's not like the truck "appeared out of nowhere".

Probably had been camping at the Casino's VERY nice campground. We really enjoy it up there.

Thats because the prosecutor is reviewing the accident. The MH driver is badly injured and might not make it. Semi driver was also quite injured.

A 74-year-old Manistee man was driving a 1989 Gulfstream Motorhome on M-22 trying to turn onto northbound US-31 when he was struck by a southbound propane hauler, the release said.

Ahh, he was making a left onto US-31... lucky the semi didn't cut his MH in half. The truck driver must have managed to slow his rig.

The article said nothing about the RV pulling out in front of the semi. It just said the semi hit him. Perhaps the semi was going too fast to stop in time.

Did you read the article? It says it right here:

"trying to turn onto" is a kind way of saying "pulled out infront of"

Here, the police used the unkind term "pulling out":

Manistee deputies say the man driving the camper was pulling out onto US31 and was hit by the semi.

I borrowed this picture and added some text about the roads

A little local knowledge:
This intersection has a mixing of different kinds of traffic. You have folks heading south coming back from Traverse City and they've been on the road a while and are used to traveling the 55-60mph and then you have people leaving the Casino (on M-22). All the roads at the Casino are 15mph, so they're in a slow driving habit.

Almost every time I'm coming home from TC someone from the Casino will pull out in front of me, and proceed to travel at 25-30mph on the highway until I give them ample motivation with my horn.

Those are empty tanks, no propane. As usual, the news reports are wrong.

The article states the truck was hauling refurbished propane tanks - they didn't have fuel in them. You won't find this type of tank being hauled in this manner with fuel in it.
