Eggs left in refrigrator

We went camping in January 2015 and another trip was planned April 2015. When the refrigerator was opened about 5 rotten eggs were found. Also, there were larvae and small white worms. The smell is awful. We've tried charcoal, baking soda, and Knox gelatin to no avail. Does anyone know how to abated the smell and any other measures to kill any larvae/worms?

Recently, I found a dozen eggs in my home fridge that had been hiding for a long time according to their "use by" date. At least a year. Out of curiosity, I prepared with a clothespin on my nose to open the eggs directly into the garbage disposal. There wasn't anything in any of the shells. Everything had evaporated! Who knew?

I forgot to add to mine, put a bowl of white vinegar in the fridge after you scrub it down. When we lived through the Rim Fire a couple years ago, the entire house and it's contents smelled like smoke. It was bad. All our clothes and everything.

We put a bowl of vinegar in each room. About two cups in each bowl. Changed out mid day, and by day two it was gone. Nothing smelled like smoke. You probably won't even need to change it out. One bowl full of vinegar left in that fridge overnight and I bet it's gone

Smoke smell clothes - must be washed and/or dry cleaned.

Smoke smell interior of house - most FDs carry a refillable spray bottle of what is/was affectionately called "Fu-Fu Juice".

Stations would have a supply in gallon jugs - spray bottle on all the rigs. Wish I could remember the commercial name.
(If you went to any sta in the city where I worked, we would happily furnish you with a pint or quart "on the house")
IMO - Common stuff - *any* FD would/should at least give you the product name.

After a small fire - like a pan left on the stove, etc. - give all the affected rooms a few 'shots' of the spray - it kills the odors *VERY* well.

How well?
(Been known to be used in/at/over occupied stalls in fire sta restrooms!)-
think you get the idea..;)

IMO - lots of other good ideas to jot down for future reference for the frig odor/s..:C

I have had to deal with this same problem some years ago. I contacted a chemical outfit that specialized in clean up stuff for car dealers particularly used cars. There is a spray, usually purchased by the gallon called Arabesque. It leaves a fairly pleasant odor as time goes by. When it is initially applied it is a pretty strong & raunchy smell starting out. Everyday or as frequently as you can go in to the RV and spray the fridge, and in the adjoining areas where this may have permeated and on the way out the door Just give the whole thing a couple of sprits. Close it up and let the sun warm it up. Do this daily for a week or so. There may be a car dealer that would sell you a spray bottle full of this stuff rather than having to buy a gallon of it.

We used equal parts water, peroxide and baking soda with a few drops of detergent to get skunk smell out of clothes. If it would work on skunk odor, maybe it would work on rotten eggs. Worth a try, at least. It sure would be cheaper than a new fridge.

Haha.. I did that solution three times. Twice when I was sprayed, and once on the dog.

I you take your fresh eggs and clean them with mineral oil (just wipe them down) then put them back in the carton (use gloves to not contaminate) they will keep for 6 months without refrigeration.

Put a pan with the black tank chemical in it and shut the door. In a week you will be fine. Maybe less maybe more.

We used T S T liquid and it worked great.

We got this on this forum a few years ago.

Wow, glad to read I'm not the only one this has happened to... I cleaned everything out well, then propped the fridge and freezer doors open for a month to air out.

My situation was a week long power outage at home due to a hurricane coming thru the county. Forgot all about the trailer fridge that we use all the time when the trailer is at the house. Had a 14 lb turkey melt down on us haha... I was starting to smell things around the trailer about a month later and then it dawned on me what it was...

All still working here now...

I agree with Ray . Newspaper is what finally got shrimp smell out of our home garage refrigerator. When we store our fifth wheel we also wad up newspaper a throw it in the fridge and freezer. Always nice and fresh.

Put some of the Kitty Litter for multiple cats in, shut and door and let sit for a few days.

Otherwise never let the door closed if the refrigerator is not running.

You will probably have to try several of these ideas before somthing works.
Good luck.

Put a bowl of ammonia in the fridge and close it.

KILLS every stink smell known to man! :B

We found an antique car up north that the owners were using as a place to stuff their garbage in for years!!!

Car restorer told us that 2 bowls of ammonia and close up the car for a few days would take out all the smell. Amazingly it WORKS!!

I now use it all the time. Good luck, try it you will be amazed too.

The two solutions I've always used for similar issues are white distilled vinegar or peroxide. Dilute either with water to 50%. Should do the trick. Good luck
