Gas station guide

When we had a diesel motor home we had a guide (hard copy) that we could look up locations that sold diesel fuel.

We now have a gasser and I'm wondering if there is a book or website that helps locate gas stations that are accessible while towing a car. In other words, gas stations that I can get into and out of with the car connected. Our motor home is 35'.

The book "Next Exit" is pretty good about listing gas stations that are RV friendly (listed in Red ). I have a 35 ft MH and tow, this past summer I pulled into 4 stations in a row that I couldn't get into the pumps . Most new stations are being built with the pump lanes heading into the stores, makes it very tight to impossible to get in/out of the pumps.

I have the same issue getting diesel off interstate. Gas Buddy then Google maps in street view. Try to choose stations with islands parallel to the convenience store.

Google Maps will find gas stations, and the satellite view will show you the pump islands.

We are a 36' gasser towing a utility trailer and there are very few gas stations we cannot get in and out of. Outside land/pumps usually work. We use google maps, ask for gas stations near what ever city/state and then use street view on satelite view to look at the station. We also use gas buddy to find the best prices.

Since we got rid of the DP and got the gasser, we have the same problem. Lots of stations, but most have the gas lane running toward or from the station. With the Jeep in tow, I have a problem finding a station that will fit them and still let me make the turn and get out of the lot. I am not above disconnecting but that sure is a lot of trouble and still may not be enough space. The filler on the Canyon Star (40 ft) is near the rear, not like the filler on the DP was right under the driver or passenger seat.

I use GasBuddy, Costco, Sam's Club, Pilot/Flying J, Walmart, whenever they are convenient. I plan my gas stop(s) at the beginning of the day or night before. I always look up the gas station on Google Maps satellite view to see if I can easily get in and out.

I don't know of any book or app that gives you the information you are looking for.

GasBuddy.com. Put the app on your I-phone. All you have to do is push the button for your current location. There will be a list of every gas station / or diesel in your range. Flip to the map view and it will plot them on the map, based on your current location. The map travels as you travel, like Google Maps does. We use it all the time, even when not camping, whenever we are in an unknown location.

To the OP, a few websites like gas buddy etc have some info.
Finding fuel is not something I've ever considered to be a chore, even when towing. Aside from inner city gas stations, I can't think of a place I've been with a trailer that worried me getting into.
Just take a look around as you're driving, bet 95%+ of non-inner-city stations you can pull right into.
Thank about it this way. Except for the rare instance, they all get fuel by semi trailer or b-trains.
Don't sweat it and if you are sweating it, just carry a jerry can of fuel.

Ours is 30', with a toad hanging out behind. We use a lot of Walmarts, and haven't found one yet that we couldn't get into or out of. I always try for one of the end pumps, but most times we can use others. Worst situation so far (15 years) was the whole troup of yardworkers that filled the tank, then everyone went into the McDonalds to get breakfast and left the truck at the pump. I had gotten boxed in, and with a toad, could not back out. So, I just went in and got my breakfast sandwich also. Gas terminal attendant watched, so I asked if he would ask them to move so I could get out of the drive at least, and he acted like I has asked him to kill or insult someone. So, when I did get to the pump, I had the entire side of the three pump island and one drive lane blocked, so I put in $20 worth of gas, washed the windshield, checked everything, then went to another place and filled up the rest of the 75 gallon tank.

MOST (Frankly I think my brother can count the exceptions on the fingers of "bad" hand) Pilots, Flying-J's T/As, Loves and so on are Gasser Friendly. If you are traveling long haul these are my first choice I like to overnight at J's due to the DENNY's sit down and be served restaurant that tends to be there (The My Pilot app will identify those)

Pilot station in Carnesville (if I spelled it right) GA is world's greatest pilot in my not very humble opinion. Good size parking lot (Truck lot) though not much pull through I was able to pull around and take up one truck slot.

Wendy's, Dairy Queen and Dunkin Donuts Express under one roof (WHY I think it's the best).

When I'm in UPSTATE SC Love's in Fair Play (exit 4 i-85) is easy in/out for gas but do use care I saw one RVer take the rear cap off a brand new trailer one day.

Most of the big Truck Plaza's have big automotive islands you can gas up at.

Now.. Once I'm in an area for a while I look for RV friendly gas stations.. The SHELL on Wells west of SR-59 in Seneca is ok.. As is Wal-mart and a host of others on my beaten path (Most Wal Marts. unless they height restrict, work well)

Kroger's stores are mixwd the one in Davison MI is NOT Motor home friendly though it's doable Burton, Lapeeer and (There is another farther east) all good.

Shell at Grand River and 7 mile in Detroit is fantastic if you are N/2 on Grand River you half turn in take the last pump and exit east on 7 mile to Telegraph back to Grand River and back n/w These are stations I have visited.

But the rule I use is long haul stick with the Big Truck places likw Flying-J et-al.. When I'm in an area for a season I look for compatable stations.. WHEN I AM DRIVING MY TOWED, and only then do I visit with the MH

I get cents off a gallon at ye old Shell.. also J's Pilots and Wal*marts. and a few other stops too.
