Google Maps 3D feature

Maybe I'm just late discovering this but Google Now has a fantastic 3D feature that gives you a fly over view of the map.

Colorado 141 South of Grand Junction

You open the map, switch to satellite view, then click on the 3D button. Then hold down the CTRL key and drag the map (not the compass rose on the right side bottom) until you get a good perspective.

The example is a particularly good example since that area has a lot canyons.

For people looking for a boondocking site, or who want to check out the grade of a road this looks like a major resource.

I am a map junky and love using Google to research routes, etc. prior to taking a trip. Problem for me is I'm so far behind the curve with my OS (XP) that I can't utilize the 3D mode. I guess one of these days I'm going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade both desktop and laptop to get back in the game. My XP has been working so well for me for so long...

It's been a while since I've used Google Satalite. I've seen the 3D before, but didn't pay too much attention. This time I did. I drug the map over my own home, zoomed in, and there was my camper in the drive way. I zoomed in just right and could actually read "Outback" on the front cap! Now that's impressive imaging!

So then I moved over my mothers house and could zoom in with enough detail to see her laundry hanging on the line on her front porch! Amazing stuff here!

I've used it on Google Earth for years. It's like virtual flying. doing the Grand Canyon is cool.
