Just drove 1180 miles from Liberty IN to Colorado Springs. 15,600 gross combined and my little 5.4L got 8.9 MPG. Truck DIC said 9.5 by the way.

I'd be happy just knowing I could make that trip about 40 more times before missing out on the mpg savings of a diesel. Just sayin.

I know the diesel guys will always top that. I'm happy with 8.9 because Kansas was very windy and rising 5000 feet in elevation.

Good mileage. In fact, it is better than I ever got with my 5.4's towing a couple of thousand pounds less. The diesel guys can top that and will be glad to tell you. My computer was/is usually about 8% optimistic.

I don't track my mpg all the time as I figure its the cost of pulling my house behind me. I do agree mpg is an indication of what's going on and I like to be able to rough in some numbers of fuel cost when planning a trip. We get 10 mpg in the hills and 12 mpg in the flat lands. We gross 20k and run at about 60 mph.

I know this is not popular with the "MPG" crowd, but... we are around 32K GCWR, FL60 and 38' HH. MPG is one thing that is no concern for me, I travel +- 63mph and when the fuel gauge gets between 1/4 and 1/2, I fuel up or if a bargain comes along, I'll use that. Pulling your house around is not really an task that requires us to look at MPG, YMMV

When we went to Alaska some 10 years ago, we have a 98 Dodge 2500 series, Cummins powered, and pull a Sunnybrook fiver at 10 K along with the truck at 6 K, total milage was like 8,500. We averaged for the whole trip 13.4 MPG. I really thought that was pretty good considering all of the different driving conditions we encountered.
We are always in the 12 to 14 MPG range when on the road these past 15 years.
