Don't know if this applies to anyone else but since we have put all trips on hold until possibly the fall and our camper is parked on our property, I cancelled the insurance policy on the camper. I will initiate a new one once we get to travel again.

Our policy was good through 31 August so we are getting a reimbursement.

When ours was up for renewal last fall I was facing Stem Cell Transplant and knew it would be sitting a while. We kept the comprehensive coverage but dropped Collision etc. we would need on the road. Cut premium in half. When we can camp again we can turn it back on.

My insurance is so cheap compared to the cost of paying for covered things myself, it makes no sense to cancel my issuance. I also knew people who cancelled for these short term periods only to have issues with new rates or conditions when they went to reactivate.

When you cancel, the return premium is not pro/rata, but is what insurance companies call short/rate. That is an enticement to NOT cancel mid-term. You will lose a few dollars and then you'll be yelling at your insurance agent.

Of course I don't know what your RV is worth, whether you have a loan on it, or what you financial situation is. Having said that, canceling comprehensive insurance may be a mistake, as it covers fire, theft, vandalism, wind storm, and similar peril not related to accident while on the road and liability. If you have a loan where the RV is collateral, the lender requires you maintain insurance to protect them, and they will take out a policy that is outrageously expensive and add that cost to your loan balance.

We have ours set up so the insurance rate drops when the trailer is being stored. We notify them when we take it out to use it. Works well.

The terms of our loan require replacement coverage on the trailer until the loan is paid off. And even if that wasn't the case, even if I'm not traveling and the trailer is just sitting in my driveway, there are still all kinds of things that could happen to it. We won't be cancelling insurance.

letโ€™s hope itโ€™s not damaged in a storm or catches on fire or by some troglodyte trying to break into it.

My sweetheart is an insurance broker, so of course I leave our policy up to her.
There is something special about camping in an RV.

My insurance costs me $8.25/month. I'll keep it intact to insure against vandalism and fire.

As long as it doesn't burn down, tree fall on it or get stolen, you should be good! lol

FWIW, I don't insure all our toys either. If I did, I'd have paid more in insurance to date than the cost of replacing a couple of them. The TC is one thing I do carry insurance on, A. Because it's cheap to have and B. Because if there is a shop fire, it's not coming out until the demo outfit shows up to clean up the mess.
