One of the popular questions on here is "What state is the best for Medicare rates" As an insurance agent I just got the 10 best states for Medicare Supplement insurance. (Not Advantage plans)
1. Hawaii
2. Vermont
3. Maine
4. New Mexico
5. Idaho
6. Oregon
7. S. Dakota
8. Iowa
9. Montana
10.N. Dakota
The article stated many states are double these states with Florida being highest

I'll be going on Medicare next October. Was none too happy to find out I'd be paying a lot more than DH. I think we're being surcharged for a "loan" to SS Disability also. With the billions in fraud still going on, I think a "loan" to be repaid is ludicrous.

Just read that yesterday Part B for new enrollees; 121.90! Don't know about the rest as I have VA Medical Care!

finding out about medicare now (husband just joined)

costs vary with the Medigap plans, but reg Medicare is $104.90/month.

so, with Part D drug coverage co-pays for his meds, we'll be paying $400/month. The medigap policy is $178/month.

I live in Michigan and am only licensed in Mich. so therefore I am only concerned with MI. Detroit area is almost double the price of West Mich. where I live. Companies will vary on their pricing with many following county lines.
I was just quoting the title of the article and I also agree it was slightly mis-titled but did read the entire story, not just the first line.

Just guessing, but Medicare supplemental insurance is private insurance. Cost of doing business varies in each state so I would assume that impacts on the rates charged.

I believe he is referring to supplement plans. Why they vary so much state to state I can't guess.

Surprised that an ins. agent would create that little bit of confusion. Dbbls, you're right when you consider Medicare rates as OP suggests in his title. However, the text in the post suggests that he was speaking of Medicare Supplement Ins, the so-called Medigap policies which do vary not only from state to state but can also vary from county/parish to county within each state. Also, not all Supplemental plans are offered by all insurers within each area.

I think Medicare rates are the same nation wide.
