Motion sensor lights, what is everyone using?

I am looking to hardwire motion lights on all side of the rig for security. A quick search came up with the MG1000 or the Starlight SL1000, I read the SL100 does not do well in the sun and the MG1000 is much brighter. Any thoughts, feedback other products?

My son had one of those on his trailer and it was very nice. A bit brighter than the one I had but otherwise almost the same.
I preferred mine just for the fact that the battery door was a bit more protected. They are both rubber O ring sealed however.

The back plate on that light is screwed on to the wall. The light then simply slides down and locks on to the small protruding bracket. To remove it you just slide it up about an inch and remove. I would not leave it attached while travelling although it would probably still be there when you arrived at your destination.

Thanks BarneyS! I just purchased 2 of the one's below that are 12 light, but the same brand and method of installing. Free shipping from Home Depot also. ๐Ÿ™‚ 12 LED adjustable motion sensor light with mounting plate

We have one of these Motion Sensor lights from Home Depot. It uses 4 "C" cells and is easily removed for travel. I had also looked at using something like this on our RV, hadn't looked at the ones the OP mentioned but the one pictured here looks like a great choice. Just wish it was stick on instead of screw on...may look into it. So with that being said, all you haters shouldn't camp next to me because I like a little light at my door when I step outside also.

I have used that also... the stick on version though from Lowes, if I recall. It lasted a couple years but then unfortunately, the sticky let loose and it disappeared during a trip.. I pray it didn't hit anyone when it fell off!

I have one starlight 1000 at my DP entrance. But it has adjustments for sensitivity and you can set it how you want. We just use it at campgrounds that have no lighting and are pitch black. We don't want to step out onto a snake or critter by the door.

That right there is one major reason I have one.. I have used battery sensor lights over the door of my camper for years. It is adjusted down to light the area right outside my door. Plus, at the very least, if someone IS at your door, they are less likely to attempt something when bathed in light than in the darkness of night. In fact, I've seen WAY more awning lights, neon palm trees, etc. in campgrounds that bug me than sensor lights glaring onto other rigs. I believe hey are a good idea.

I will try the Starlight 1000, or one like it that is direction adjustable,
soon also.

Cheers!

Exactly!

I read some reviews on the SL off youtube they dont handle the sun well, I read MG1000 is newer and better made. Still trying to figure it out.

Just wondering, will motion detector activated lights wake you so you can run the thief off? I'd sleep right through them. Another thinking, would the scare lights help in arresting the thief or would a trail cam picture help?

Maybe if you had both, the thief could see the camera and steal that.

As much as I hate it but the cameras are becoming a necessity, the DGS and I will be installing our 4 camera security system on Black Friday. And yes, there have been several thieves that wandered into our neighborhood caught and arrested due to the homeowners having security cameras.

I had someone try to break into my toy hauler 4 am in Glamis last season while I was in it, that was not a good experience, I am assuming he thought it was vacant. I do a lot of boon docking and need some protection a heads up when I am in the middle of nowhere. Will a motion light help? Absolutely! All the motion lights will have individual switches and will not be used in campgrounds. The newer technology lights you can adjust the sensitivity and range. Per their website:Microchip distinguishes between people and small animals or blowing debris BTW, You are kidding yourselves if you think theft doesnt happen, obviously it depends on where you camp but it does happen.

I appreciate all the responses but I am really not looking for opinions on if you think I need motion sensor lights or how it would effect the peacefulness and aura of your oasis.

If you have experience with motion lights please respond. I had one person PM me with a proper response as they want to jump in this lion den.

Worried about security?
Chances are you will have to worry about a lot of angry neighbors in most all of the places you camp....if you go ahead with your 4 side motion light plan.

I'm glad that this is a really big country with lots and lots of campgrounds....chances are we won't be camping next to someone with motion lights on all four sides of their rig......

Security from what, your fellow campers? 35 years of RVing and I've never had anything stolen from my campsite. Fortunate? Maybe, just stating a fact.
