oil like substance dripping from television

I know this sounds crazy, but we have an oil like substance dripping(every once in a while)from the television in our motorhome. It is coming from the left hand bottom corner, and I also wiped around the whole back edge and it had a little bit of this substance on the paper towel. I have checked and it is definitely coming from the television Does anyone have an idea what this could be.

The TV is a 32 inch LCD Jensen that is on the wall. There is no leak in the motorhome. It is not AC, it is DC only, it runs off our batteries, just like our Jensen TV that is in the bedroom. The substance that is coming out of it is an oily substance because I wiped the drip that was coming out of it with a paper towel and you can tell it is oil. I also wiped around the back, what I could reach, and it also stained the paper towel, but not much. So far the TV works.

I think the best response is the one that suggested getting it the blazes out of the coach before it starts a blazing inside the coach.

I do not THINK you have a fire hazard.. But I do not KNOW that you do not, and when it comes to fire, Better safe than sorry.

Too many things it could be,, A power supply capacitor is one of them but like the others, I do not think it would have that much oil in it.

Might be spilled cola,, but .. Well, till you know, you really should get it out of the RV for safety.

Could it be water that has condensed inside the tv (or gotten in from a leak), and picked up dirt and stuff inside so it comes out dark?

Until you are able to determine what is the real problem I would recommend removing the set from the coach.

You could have a fire hazard that could even manifest with the set turned off but plugged in.

There are only about 8 screws holding the back on...take the back off and have a look.

I doubt a capacitor leak would flow like the OP has stated. These newer flat screens have small caps and the amount of electrolyte is miniscule. Also, a leaking cap would probably mean no operation of the screen.

It may be that some oil was deposited inside the case during assembly. A worker could have used some oil for a purpose and not cleaned the residue. I hope it isn't hoisin. 😃

There is no actual "liquid" in an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). The screen is made up of crystals that have both solid and liquid like properties. They can not leak in the liquid sense.

if it's not a flat screen, could be somebody spilled a coke or something in it and t's just making its way out the bottom...

I,d google that model, my daughters tv lost its sound ,found out that model was recalled do to a fire hazard.

I did not think an electrolytic Cap had that much oil. ???? Maybe an oil transformer. :h .. What ever it is time for a warranty replacement. I do not know anyone who repairs TV now-a-days.

How old is it. Maybe some leftover cleaning solution from the manufacturing process. . . . :h

Most likely leaky electrolytic capacitors. 😞

Is it an LCD tv? There is a small amt of liquid in these but if it was leaking, you would notice the picture going bad. Capacitors going bad can leak, but not very much.
