Pennsylvania Speed Limit Increase to 70 MPH

The Pennsylvania Transportation bill will increase the speed limit on some highways to 70 MPH starting sometime next year. They've not identify which highways will see the increase or when the increase will take effect. They will have to do traffic studies first, which could take months.

I think we are also going to see an increase in gas prices, incrementally over the next few years as well, to pay for road and bridge construction.

The drive through TX was butt numbing but I managed to find something out the windshield of interest. Interstate 70 through Ohio, Indiana and Missouri is straight, flat and long but still... I can't say I was bored. PA's fall foliage is lovely, on or off the turnpike, and trying to get home for Christmas during a snow storm through those mountain passes is anything but boring 😉

Corbit didn't tax these billionaire gas companies enough,so now he will be breaking the backs of us working people. They also promised after putting in the Mohegan Sun casino we would get a property tax break, guess what no tax break. They reassed and upped everybodys taxes.Enough of this kinda talk from me,this is where I come to get away from the everyday aggrevations and discuss camping since there is nothing you can about it.

Why is Pa raising fuel taxes? I thought the money from gas fracking was going to save the state!

My guess is that many of you that do not like the PA turnpike have never driven I80 west of Salt Lake City through the salt flats. Absolutely nothing to see for miles and miles; no animals, no houses, etc.

I hate our four times a year drive through PA. I have never been through the interstates there without being held up because of road work, and those stupid "Safty zones" just make hypocrites out of all the drivers.
The only ones that obey the speed limits in them are us out of staters.

They do not even allow one to see traffic going the other direction. About as exciting as driving in a tunnel for several hundred miles, and you have to pay for each mile traveled. Chris

Wow, surprised to hear the dislike for PA state travel. I have lived in PA my entire life and still love the drive across the state. What are you looking to see, cities?? That is what I find boring. PA is beautiful with the rolling hills and foliage. You want to see boring drive from Ohio to SD. Flat flat flat. We drove out to Yellowstone and realized on our way home how beautiful PA is. Not quite like yellow stone but way better than everything in between :-). Hate reading about the gas tax though!

Some roads here in PA you will get run over if you do 70, so "MOVE RIGHT if you can't keep up with the flow in the left lane!". LOL!

Welcome to PA...Roads of Rage and pot holes the size of NJ.

Hate to disagree, but the PA turnpike from Carlisle west to Pittsburgh is by far the most boring road I've ever been on. You out-of-staters better fill up before the PA border and hope you can make it all the way through - since PA will have the highest gasoline taxes in the nation. I'm not sure if the tax increase applies to diesel. Welcome to Pennsylvania - land of taxes.

Yes, the increase includes diesel, 38.5 cents per gallon.
The new bill is about raising fuel tax, registration and inspection fees, etc..
The increased speed limit is probably a ploy to cover the increased fees and taxes.

The turnpike or I-80?? I have a heavy foot and there are sections of the turnpike where that would be insane.

I love the drive on PA turnpike through western PA in the Fall and have some great memories of the same drive with the top down in the spring and summer. And is there any better view of TMI than as you cross the bridge over the Susquehanna??
