Renting out your RV nightmares.

Hello,
Having only using my RV for twice a year for a week at a time. I found myself leaving my RV in the parking lot most of the year. I started renting out my RV. The experience wasn't as bad as I had thought but it is coming back each time with little more damage than I anticipated.
The last damage took out the under the vehicle's plumbing. Already spent $350 replacing a some plumbing and now the shop is telling me the black tank is damaged.
It is all covered by the insurance but the shop is telling me the replacement tank cannot be found due to Roadtrek going out of business early this year and the manufacturer also stop making the black tank for 2012 Roadtrek 190. The shop is looking in to other tank that might fit but the vehicle's low clearance is making it difficult to find an alternative. He also tells me the junk yard also does not have this particular model to pull a used tank.
I'm potentially looking at a RV without a black tank and the frustration is that it can't be fixed.
The insurance says they can only cover up to the damage and no more.
Does anyone have any suggestion?
The shop did say I can put in a compost toilet but I need a black tank.

I've heard of folks having good luck with eternabond for fixing tanks, and that might allow you to get it on the road (and rented or used) while you wait for the replacement tank to be made.

Maybe a mobile RV service guy would be more interested in working for the money.

With the tank out for repair it can be measured, and you will find who made it probably imprinted on the tank. I doubt Roadtek made the part, but its possible. Worse case scinaro is a fiberglass duplicate would have to be made, easy peasy for a boat place.

BTW, I rent my RV as well, try to ignore the 'nay sayers'. At least we won't have to compete with them.

There is/was a RV rental place about a mile from my home. He threw in the towel after a few years, couldn't take it any longer. He couldn't schedule renting because of all the cleaning and repairs that a RV needed before the next customer.

Some times even lending an item can be returned in a broken state, wife lent her slicer to the neighbor and she managed to close it backwards breaking a small plastic pivot, how she managed that is a complete mistery to both of us.

Please enlighten us with some first hand documentable evidence.

Read through some of the posts on these forums to see how biblically ignorant some people can be of the systems in a TT and how they work and you'll have all the evidence you need that there need be no malicious intent present when people destroy a rented anything. Then, for fun, imagine people unlike yourself that simply don't give a rat's arse about the item they are renting "because I've paid for it" and you'll get a clue.

Take the tank out, take it to a boat shop and get their opinion.

They should be able to help you out.

Clean it real good first and you might get a better deal to fix it :S

I would never take mine to an RV repair shop. Ive always and only seen incompetence. Im sure there are good ones out there too, I guess.
I bought a used RV from a dealer and found copious amounts of duct tape used for weather stripping and waterproofing and many other idiotic fixes.

I am wanting to buy a used RV just to rent out now. How much $ can be made? Unlike OP, I can fix everything myself so am not slave to mechanics and unwilling RV shops.

Your tanks should be fixable to infinity. If it broke in half, fix it. If the pipes broke off, fix itโ€ฆ.

I imagine or hope his insurance is gotten as insurance for renting out vehicles. This does exist.

I purchased another RV for friends and family to use. The people who I will selectively let use the RV will do so with the RV already set up and they understand how a RV functions. No way in hades I would let John Q Public use it, I know how people treat rentals.

I wold like to know the ratio of proffit versus the expenses of the repairs? And that includes the deductibles and insurance premiums.

I will not lend the RV to anyone even my brother is a NO, NO.

I find it hard to understand an insurance company will even cover you if your renting it out. Most insurance will drop you or your rates will go thru the roof.

Why aren't you just charging the people who rented and broke your stuff instead of claiming on your insurance.

Do you keep a substantial security deposit until you can get a look at any damage?

Sounds like owning a RV isn't something that fits your lifestyle. Why not just sell it and forget about all the worries.

Look, Gulfcoast, Iโ€™m sure...positive...OP has insurance that covers him for loss, major damage, liability etc. and that he/she factored that all into his price to make the big bucks.
