Replaced the dump-station plumbing...

With our 2012 Class C now 7 years old I am trying to stay out in front on the preventative maintenance. To that end this morning I replaced the dump station gate valves. Just went online to Amazon and entered "Valterra" {the manufacturer of the existing valve} and up popped mine for a very reasonable $37.50, got it in two days.

The old one came out easily enough though several of the bolts had to be removed and reinstalled using the braille method as there is not much room to work through the small access door. I quickly learned that the key when reinstalling is to leave all 8 bolts fairly loose until everything lines up and the new seal's seat then just cross torque them down.

I always suspected that the bathroom sink drained to the black tank but never cared enough to check. Discovered my suspicions were correct when I did my post install leak test. A couple of buckets of water down the toilet, sink, and shower drains produced no leaks and the bucket down the sink drain left the grey tank dry.

Here is a pic of the old parts I removed, noted the cracked grey tank handle that probably would have failed the next time I used it.

Here is the finished install {sorry about the poor pic quality}:

I was having a similar reaction to this post. Maybe I'm lucky, or perhaps I'm ignorant...

Our rig will be 7 next year and our valves barely look any older than the day we got it. Wouldn't have even crossed my mind to replace these until and unless they started showing issues with movement or cracking - which we are not seeing at all.

My gray valve is as old as the coach but still completely serviceable. Not as difficult to do as the black.
I just replaced the gray valve on our trailer last year because it was getting hard to open. The black valve is still the original - from 1990.

How lucky are some because the valve is easy accessible.Not in my case I got to rip of the under belly fiberglass insulation too.

Both tanks had recently been thoroughly flushed and then flushed again. All that was in them was antifreeze. The handles are plastic but so were the ones on the original and they lasted 7 years {just barely}.

I figured this would bite me at the most inconvenient of times If I didn't git er done now. We are headed out to Buckskin Mountain SP on the Colorado river for 4 days in January followed by a few days in Quartzsite for the big RV show on our way home. Now the coach is ready to roll, just need to add more antifreeze to the tanks and traps {Walmart as been back ordered on this stuff for months} looks like I will have to go down to CW for the next couple of gallons to get me through the winter.

So when is the last time you checked/serviced your dump plumbing? {Glad no-one asked me that last week. :B}

Did you get the ones with metal pull handles? If not they can be replaced.

Hope you flushed the black tank real well first! Did this a few years ago, not a fun job in a very tight space.
