Two weeks to go until the big day! Retired USN 21 years of active duty and 4 years of active reserve (reserve time was when I was going to college). 10+ years of NJROTC Instructor (Georgia teacher retirement) and I turn 62 in July, Social Security also. Work longer and get more social Security, no way. My wife and I are ready to go camping!

Well, this is the month to jump! I hope all goes well with your planning. And I plan to do the same in February 2015.

I also turn 62, but for me it is in November 2014. I am staying until February 2015 because my employer gives us two weeks off during the winter break paid! And that is on top of getting 12 days off vacation and 12 days off sick every year. I worked in Florida State law enforcement for 28 years and am now working in college security.

And as soon as I get my traveling RV rig I am on the road! Good bye Florida!

You know your date of birth. Unless you know your date of death, do it as soon as you can afford it. Just being retired will add 10 years to your life. GO. HAVE FUN.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

I probably have more retiring experience than most of you. So far I have retired 5 times and I am still doing some insurance work at 75. At 55 I retired from a large ins. co. The next day I started on my own as an independent. I retired 2 times from Church organist & choir director and still play occasionally. I retired from school bus driving 5 years ago after 50 years of that. I enjoy what I do and on my own schedule.

My hubs is 3 years away from retiring from the Coast Guard. He will have 30 years of service. We just got transferred to Seattle for his last tour. We decided to live in our RV and let our daughter/son-in-law stay in our house we own in Oklahoma. We plan to full time and travel once he retires so we just thought we would get started now. Will travel the PNW when he can get some leave so we can enjoy the area while we are here.

Let me add my congratulations, too! I retired from the Army after 21 years active Reserve and from a city government after 24 years at age 61 and went to work at another job. At 62 years and 6 months I decided it was time to stop working completely and start social security. I'll go camping, too, as soon as my wife decides to retire. I'm working on her, and I think she's beginning to think seriously about it!

You may want to look into your specfic Social Security account. If you have enough money from other sources that you really don't need SS right away you can still wait, not continue working and your SS payments will go up roughly 8%/year till you are 70.5 years old.

Thank You for your service! Welcome to the club. I retired @ 59.5. I was ready and had planned for years. As soon as I had my IRA safty net I jumped. This birthday I start pulling the SS... Nice bonus (of my money) but agree with others I'm dipping in while it's there. Don't want the rules changed as I get to the finsh line.

Congratulations! My neighbor retired yesterday after 20 years active in the Navy and is headed out on a 60 day trip from VA to OH via CA while he is on terminal leave, then starting school.

I have 3.5 years left until I retire from the Navy, then I am hitting the road for awhile as well, until I find a place I want to settle in.

Will be joing the group in the very near future. 35 years working for our government is enough for this old kid, time to go out and enjoy life with the DW and two furrkids.

Everyone at my work think I have to wait until April 2015 to retire but I have found out otherwise that I can go at any moment, can't wait to walk in one day soon and say "Take this job and shove it"!
