I just clear water rinse the roof to keep the soot and debris off there.

My last trailers original roof at 14 years old was fine the day I sold it with the same regiment.
Pokes and scrapes are what I'm terrified of especially after neglecting a tiny hole on our first TT ๐Ÿ˜ž

I guess the treatments are fine...for me I just don't have much desire to work harder than I have to.

Seems to me that it boils down to whether these products:
1. help to keep the roof easier to clean?
2. and if they help in making the roof easier to clean, does that help extend the life of the roof?
3. if they help diminish the impact of UV rays, does that help extend the life of the roof?

Thanks sooperdootyford, At least someone else does maintainance. I have used Dicor products, they make the roofs and tell you to do so .

I maintain the parts of my RV according to the manufacturer instructions. The rubber roof manufacturer recommends simple cleaning only.

So exactly what does a rubber roof treatment do and why is it necessary on a 7 year old roof?

Champions Choice is made by Protect All right here in Anaheim California...a reputable manufacturer of RV Products...most of which I've at least tryed once or twice.

Protect All was just voted the #1 Roof Treatment by real RVers like you an me by Motorhome Magazine and Trailer Life Magazine. I wouldn't hesiate to use their products, and as a matter of fact HAVE! For at least 8 years.

Right now in the utility box of my RV...I have 6 of their products including tire protectant, slideout dry lube and everything they sell is backed with a 100% return "at any time" guarantee.

I don't give many testimonials either! Mostly lately I brag about my Grand Daughter, my Jayco RV's and my Samual Adams Boston Lager.

rubber roofing was NEVER meant to be washed or treated with anything. If what you used contains ANY petroleium distalates you could have just damaged it. These products were created to make someone money....its that simple

Why do think it is necessary to treat your 2006 roof? I inspect mine regularly and wash it twice a year and have no need whatsoever to do anything to it.

Gosh, you already put it on! The time to ask those questions was before you bought it and installed it, not after.

But since you asked, washing the rubber roof actually serves to hasten its demise. Let me explain. The roof is designed to gradually shed its white layer as its deteriorates due to UV light exposure. The spent roof particles adhere to the intact roof and protect the intact white layer from UV light exposure. When you remove that spent layer- I bet you saw a milky white rinse water during the washing process which was that spent layer being removed- the fresh intact layer is now exposed to the UV light which will shed and the process starts over.

Many roof coatings can actually damage the roof. Petroleum distillates will ruin a roof softening the rubber material and soaking through to the glue and causing the roof to no longer adhere to the sub-roof material. Many of these so called "roof protectors" actually contain petroleum distillates. Check your label. You may have seen a RV coming towards you with the roof bellowing in the wind. Now you know what causes that!

The best strategy for rubber roof maintenance is to do nothing. Parking it under cover, away from direct sunlight and therefore UV light exposure serves its longevity the best.
