87 hovered $3.20 +/- last weekend. There were a few pumps ~$3.16 Sunday nite early Monday. Tuesday morning I got a GasBuddy email warning that due to fuel pump price drops in recent weeks coupled with wholesale price increases in the last two weeks, look for $3.35/$3.45 in our area (West Michigan) soon. By Tuesday afternoon - $3.45 all over. However on my drive into town last night I went by a $3.11/$3.12 neighborhood price war! So I gassed up the car. I'd felt bad for not doing so earlier @ $3.16. It would have been an extra ~$8 or so.

One other idea is to repeal the laws that require something like 8 or 9 different gasoline formulations depending on where you live in the U.S.

Two contributing factors:

1. Gas supplies are currently very high.
2. Winter blend gasoline is always less expensive than summer blend.

Prices would be a lot lower still, if oil hadn't climbed back over the $100/bbl in the last couple of weeks..... ๐Ÿ˜ž

WHAT IS WITH GAS PRICES .... ?

I am seeing a downward spiral of gasoline prices .. was checking prices when we decided to travel on Dec. 9th ... seeing a sprial after fueling up on Saturday in SE Washington with regular gas at $3.40, today see it is $3.39 in The Dalles, OR.

Reminds me of the "gas wars" way back when ...

Elkhornsun, I understand your frustration, but with all due respect, I'm unaware of any authority corporations have to pass laws or regulate commerce.

I am aware, having worked in congress for decades, of a relative handful of elected officials accepting enormous sums of money from those folks, often over decades, and then doing their bidding. It would appear that energy, environment, medicine and countless other problems we face are primarily, if not directly, a result of congressional and executive actions or inactions.

Still, the blame lies with us and our whining about the jerks that comprise the "leadership," with the caveat that "my guy" deserves to stay. I think it's about 95% of incumbents who win reelection.

That last paragraph should have a qualifier, but I'll save it for later, if needed.

A great website is gasbuddy.com which posts prices for different grades of gas and diesel and lists them by town or zip code and shows when the prices were reported and has a way to show them on a map which can be zoomed out to show an entire metro area or state or the entire USA.

I use it to find local stations and save $0.20 to $0.50 per gallon and when traveling to spot the best stations along the route. My wife took a trip north to Oroville over the weekend and I found a place 20 miles south in Yuba City that was $0.35 a gallon cheaper and only a block off the main highway. I found a place 10 miles north of Paso Robles, where I go a lot to sample the local wines, that is $0.55 cheaper for diesel than any station in town and a full dollar cheaper than the town of Cambria which is usually where we stay. That amounts to a savings of from $6 to $15 per fillup at the pumps. Not a huge savings but one that is painless to get.

Thanks for the update. Any more word on that new refinery up by Williston? Sounds like the sucking sound we hear is diesel being moved in large quantities toward NW North Dakota.

So, you are agreeing with me on this one!

I've been to north and south Dakota several times and wouldn't want to live there for even a minute, visiting is ok but to have neighbors 5 miles apart and nothing but grass no thanks. This work is good for the unemployed and the lost but most folks will stay for the near term then move on out of boredom.

I was raised in north central Montana in the prairie wheat fields. Only saw trees in town, around farm houses, or along creeks and rivers. There is nothing to stop/slow down the wind around Williston, ND. Yes, the work ($$$) is good for the unemployed that want to work.

Gas prices continue to slowly drift down around here. But in the Twin Cities prices are 20ยข a gallon cheaper.

You have to ask............. What oil wizard didn't get his lobbyist or the reps that he owns to write the rules before the game started? Looks like a big "oops" for the oil big wigs.

I can't fault this Helms guy as he from the state and sits on the oil and gas commission, where is his payoff?

One fella was right though this oil isn't really for us anyhow. This stuff is heading out of the continent.

Yes, this oil IS headed out of the continent - to China and India.

For one thing, frack oil costs about $40-50 MORE per barrel to get to market, so the most willing customers are in China and India (yes, the average Chinese and the average Indian is poor, but there is a HUGE upperclass in each country that is flush with cash from all the business that the US has exported to them. You know, all those good jobs that used to be in the USA. And they are willing to pay any price to power their Mercedes and Buicks and those of their wives and children.

The crude will be piped to Gulfport to be refined just before it is shipped OUT of the continent.

Dakota will soon be a colony of China, with imported chinese workers making a nickel an hour operating Made In China equipment.

Dakotans will be getting table scraps for jobs.

The current EPA is out of control, IMHO. Hopefully they only have 13 months left before the EPA direction can be re-directed.

Oil hit $101.xx a barrel this morning. So far the price of gasoline continues a very slow drift downwards. Diesel, of course, continues being priced around $4.00 a gallon.
