I need to sanitize my fresh tank but we are in a severe drought here in So. Cal. I don't want to waste water or get a serious ($$$) fine for using too much water. Is there a way to sanitize my fresh tank and waste very little water?? My fresh tank is 100 gallons.

I buy gallon plastic jugs of distilled water for whatever goes inside of me. Like coffee, cooking and soaking my teeth overnight. I use a white hose for filling my fresh water tank, but that water stays on the outside of me. I'd use a green hose for that but I got tired of explaining it to fellow campers.

The skin is largest organ a human has...water and contents can/do get absorbed thru skin.

Might as well use that big old plastic bottle (fresh water tank) vs them little bitty throw aways that store bought water comes in :B

X2!
I guess I don't understand the phobia about tap water! We drink and use for coffee and cooking closed environment should be fine.

Seems 'RV' just makes things more complicated
Is it time for your medication or mine?

I pretty much do the same as you Jim, however, I do brush my teeth, do dishes and give the dogs water from the fresh tank. I also like having water in my fresh tank for emergencies (like earthquakes and stuff)

WHY do you need to sanitize fresh water tank :H

I only sanitize when I first buy the rig..........new or used.
Next time if ever is because I have ACTUALLY gotten bad water.

Otherwise......WHY :H

My fresh tank has been sitting for a few months with water in it and the temps get over 100 here in the summer. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

westend and wing_zealot thanks for the ideas to reuse the water .... I didn't think of that

Yes, sanitize it. But only use 50ppm of chlorine and 4 hour contact time. Afterwards, drain only about half the water and refill the tank and you will be good to go. You can save the drained water to use around the house for doing dishes, bathes, etc.

Mix your bleach into the tanks and supply lines. Let it sit overnight. Drain it into buckets and use it for toilet flushing, cleanup, or even for your washing machine.

If you feel it is absolutely necessary just add a few gallons of water/clorox, enough to be able to pump around and drive to slosh it around the tank. finish a rinse when you get someplace where you can use more water.
are you on city water that is chlorinated. if so just use that.
