Shaky pole style table leg - updated

I know I read on here in the past where folks complained about the shaky pole style table legs. Didn't pay too much attention since we didn't have one. Well, now we do and I absolutely hate it. It is a free standing table in our B where the sides flip up to make it bigger and it sits on a pole that goes into the floor. It's tippy and we're always spilling drinks and plates even want to slide off the table if we aren't careful to keep it straight.

The pole seems to fit tightly in the bracket under the table, but is looser where it goes into the bracket in the floor.

Anyone come up with a solution for some way to stabilize it?

I had a shaky table support. It eventually cracked and broke right at the mount. I replaced it and it immediately began to shake and fail. I replaced the post support with a pair of steel folding table legs for $20. It is now rock-solid and I can even take the table outside, if I choose. The legs fold up enough so that the table can be lowered into it's "down position" to make an additional bed.

Pretty well. The table is quite stable unless we are cutting something with a knife - even then it is acceptable if we're careful.

OP here. Thanks all for the ideas... One of the things that sounds like it would work is attaching the table to the wall to keep it stabilized. We can't exactly do that as it is in front of the wardrobe closet. And we can't keep it permanently mounted as there just isn't room and we need to get into the closet.

But - I thought of attaching a velcro strap that comes out of the closet and wraps around the pole. We'll see how that works - it does keep it from leaning away from that point which has been the biggest problem with tipping.

We're going to be trying it out this next week and will let you know...

I went with a Springfield telescoping leg. Pricey but it does the trick. I went with silver vs the black shown here.

Add a second leg and base. It has only one because the builders are CHEAP

As mentioned, replacement parts are inexpensive. I would guess a table supported by a single pole was always shaky. Mine had two poles and still moved quite a bit.

If it is appropriate for your application, I recommend looking at the Swedish Lagun table support system.

I mounted this Bracket to the wall (just happened that the window frame was the correct height to use the same screws) and end of the table to stabilize our table. And then moved the support pole out to the end to get it out of the way of our legs.

Line everything up and give the table top a good solid double fisted thump right over the leg. Often that's all you need.

Also, unless it's a booth, you can put a cleat on the wall and screw the table to that, or just rest it on if you use the dinette for a bed.

We had the same issue. I replaced the floor base with a recessed base and problem solved. You can buy one for about $10

First thing is make sure it's the fit of the leg and not the piece that screws to the floor. Mine was cracked and not easily noticed. Also make sure it doesn't bottom out in the socket, which isn't likely but... I went after my leg with a hammer and vise to get it to fit the socket tighter. It works better but it's one of the reasons I hate these dinette things.

Odds are the pole itself is the issue. Harbor Freeight sells a device that is designed to expand exhaust pipes.. I believe the largest one may work for you too but it's not easy to use.

A shim. (even a couple sheets of paper) may help.
