Shower Rod/Curtain

My bathtub and shower are quite small. I have seen the shower rods that bow outward to provide more shoulder room, but I'm not sure how the extra shower curtain fits toward the bottom at the tub.

For those that have, or have had, this type of rod and curtain, do they work well? Are they worth changing from the straight rod?

Thanks

This shower rod is awesome. Extended into the shower, it affords more space in the small bathroom and allows you to hang wet garments over the tub. And of course it holds the shower curtain plenty far away during showering. Before getting one of these, I used a spring loaded curtain rod to hold the curtain away from the shower area. It worked well too. I still use it for hanging items in the shower area.

It is a bit heavy. One side of mine is just in the luan. It's held up well for several years now. You could always create a reinforced mounting area from a variety of materials at any hardware store.

hotbyte, yeah, mollies might do it. Still got the thing, revisit it some day when I'm caught up 🙂

I just installed one in my RV. Here is the link to the post in the DYI section.

You're right, it is a bit heavy. I just installed mine with the screws provided, through the white shower stall plastic and into the wood and had no problems. It felt like it went into something solid so I had no worries. Nice thing about it is you can hang towels off it to dry. We had the old slide track on the roof with the wheels previously.

Our new trailer has the stall shower with glass door so I don't have a curtain anymore. If I did, I would install one again in a heartbeat. Great product.

Some good molly bolts would probably hold it. I installed a wire shelf in our upper kitchen cabinet with them. We store coffee mugs, dishes, etc. and it is solid over 3 yrs.

You need to know one thing about the Extend-A-Shower. Its HEAVY. The DW ordered one, and after looking at it and where it would mount, I didn't have a good feeling about it staying up, as it would only be mounted to the luan.

Wish I could have used it 🙂

I replaced our straight rod with an Extend-A-Shower last year. It works great. Wish I had added it years ago.

I see the link the OP posted is indeed the Extend-A-Shower. Many post on the subject on this forum. They work fantastic and give you a lot more room. Like I said, one of the best mods I ever made.

Worked GREAT in mine. I'd post a picture but it seems that I can't get to my older photobucket pics. 😞

I imagine it would work well. But if you want to try a cheap fix before buying the rod, do this. Take two binder clips. Attach one at each end of a length of string. Before going into the shower, clip one to the center of the curtain about where your elbow would be. Attach the other one to something straight across in your bathroom, if you can. In my previous motorhome, I just wrapped the other end around the toilet paper holder which was on the opposite wall from the shower curtain. Hope this makes sense.

I found this wonderful solution on this forum and it worked great for us!

Our Lance camper has a bowed-out shower rod. Because the height between the rod and shower floor is less than in a regular situation, I need to cut off about 1" of the curtain before installing a new one. Measure the distance from the shower floor to where the rod would be bowed out ( the longest distance) and check against the length of a new curtain.

The bowed out rod makes all the difference when showering...I am no longer rubbing against the curtain while wet!!!
