Side tilt

I have always towed my fifth wheel with the side tilt on my hitch engaged. How do you tow? Its just a matter of the handle position and the hitch has holes for either way for the safety pin. Reese hitch.

Semi 5th wheels don’t have side tilt. It’s more stable in crosswinds and buffeting from other vehicles. But semis generally aren’t concerned with trailer/truck frame flex. Pickups and 5vers aren’t designed as heavy duty and the mfgs are actually taking flex out of the truck frames and flexing tears apart an RV,slowly.
Having that option on a rv is a good thing, when you need it and a minor hindrance when you don’t want it. That’s why trailers that go off road more, like flat decks and stock trailers are GN. So they pivot.

Locking the side tilt, can put more stress on the pin box and hitch when going out of a driveway at an angle. Older hitches didn’t tilt side to side, but they also had much shorter pin boxes.

As long as you are on smooth pavement, it won't make much difference but why buy an articulating hitch in the first place if you are just going to disable it?

Have a Husky 4 way articulating hitch.

WHY would one not use fore/aft and side/side tilt?

I have a Curt Q20 and it can tilt 360 at all times.
