I haven't read the article yet, I have to go to work. But, if I'm reading the headline right it's a recall of tires that were made 19 years ago. Who is running 19 year old tires anyway ????

OK, a couple of things:

First, is that in the truck market, it's the buyer who specifies what tires are put on the vehicle - EXCEPT for vehicles not purposely built for customers. In those cases, it's the vehicle manufacturer who decides what tires go on.

In this case, the chassis was a bus chassis, which is usually used for intercity bus service. That is start and stop type of service, which the tires were designed for. The problem was that RV converters bought those chassis's and didn't change the tires out for something more suitable for RV service.

Ergo, I don't see how Goodyear was involved in the decision as to what tires were applied.

Second, how is the chassis manufacturer or the RV converter not liable? Maybe they are, but they settled earlier to avoid the bad PR.

Clearly Goodyear could have done a better job of handling this, but I just don't see this as a "defect". It's a "poor job of selecting tires" type of thing.

Goodyear knew they had issues with the G159 22.5" tires over 20 years ago. Goodyear stopped production in early '00s.
Goodyear could have done the right thing and issued a recall but being big business they chose business 101.... section screw the customers.....ignored they had a unsafe product....closed production hoping it would all just go away.

This topic should be posted in the MH forum where they use 22.5" tires.

Your right It should be in the motor home forum . The rules say that I can't post it in more then one place. Could you post it over there so they can see it ? Thank-You.

The government started investigating the tires in 2017, 14 years after the last one was made. The tires were for Class As. Thinking they were/are on vehicles not driven a whole lot and the tread looked good.

Just goes to show the silliness of some of these endless recalls. By the time the lawyers get done negotiating the reason for the recall is forgotten.
I've been waitng over a year for parts for the Takata air bags for 2012 GMC to be in stock for a recall that was issued three or four years ago. When I call the dealer they tell me they will call when the parts are in. I'm not holding my breath. The lawyers got paid, so the heck with everyone else.

Well if you wait long enough, all those tires will be gone, exploded, trashed and no pay out required. Novel idea.
