Still can't think of a better place to retire, than were we decided to live 40 odd years ago:
:h Yep! Las Cruces, New Mexico. Far from Perfect, but Pretty Close.
Why Las Cruces & some
Other Places.
Another Site - Same Conclusion:S But Please Don't! The Place is Getting Too Full of People. Traffic not as nice as it used to be. Move to Florida.
It has a State Income Tax. It is way too Hot, Weather & Food. It is much to Dry, Can't Remember the last time it really rained here. The Wind can be Fierce. The Dust can be a Pain. What Water we have comes from Wells & is Hard. It can & does Snow & we have a Winter. Spring is about a month long, mostly Windy. You many need to lean to say, "ยฟPor lo que hablas a Inglรฉs?"
People will not know where you have moved:

Close to the grand kids is important to me.
Very True, if to leave, it would be To Be Close to the Grandkids!
As of now, Alaska is too far north & Tucson isn't but 4 hours away.
I could see why:
1. Loveland/Fort Collins, Colo. A very nice area, but a tad cold in the winter.
4. Portland, Ore. Very nice area, but a tad damp most of the time.
8. Tucson, Ariz. A neat place for sure, a tad hot in summer. A large city, but small town feel.
11. Santa Fe, N.M. A very nice place, a little cold in winter, but very costly to live there. Small town, large city traffic.
15. San Diego, Calif. Very nice place, but costly to live there & crowded area.
