US Border agent gave my passport to.....??

For anyone that has border crossing concerns....Monday morning, crossing at Oroville, get the usual Agriculture inspection. Pull over to the left and wait for the agent.

Agent finally saunters over...holds up the passport and observes..."you don't look much like this anymore" as he gives me my passport. As I hand it back..`because that`s not mine`.

The agent in the kiosk had given my passport to another driver and they were long gone. Long story short...they knew the other driver and hoped he`d be back sometime in the day. I was released into the US and I overnighted up on the Similkameen. Got it back this morning at 9am.

How would they get an extra passport. The previous guy left without asking for his passport back? Who does that? You are entering a foreign country, and you are going to leave the border without getting your passport back from the agent? Pretty strange set of circumstances involved here.

Garry, glad you got your passport back so quickly.
I guess that the agent that did the check was not the same one as you handed your passport to. Guess I have not traveled into Canada via vehicle in a long, long, time! I have either flown or walked into the country. Last time time I drove in was about 50 years ago! I have been in several times in the last several years so always deal with only one agent.

Wow! Never thought of that but one thing I always do is check my credit card when the waiter hands it back to me.

Happened to me once, too. Only my incident happened at Checkpoint Charlie reentering West Berlin after a visit to the bookstore in East Berlin, and the agents were toting machine guns. It was a bit uncomfortable, to put it mildly.

I would say that has potential to be embarrassing to the USBP.

Hope you got your passport back no problem...

Everyone is human last time I checked. Humans make mistakes. Doesn't matter whether they are employed by the government or not.

Personally, I do not trust anyone, until the totality of the circumstances involved proves that a person is trustworthy.

That could have resulted in a serious problem had the other driver not been a local! I would certainly report it.

Wow Gary! That's really something....
And the Oroville crossing is a very small one too,

I remember the days in the 70s when all we had to do is tell them we are going there for coffee!

i'd certainly report it but i wouldn't assume it was done maliciously. mistakes do happen but report it.

Are you saying border patrol loaned out your passport?
