If it'll meet your needs go for it. Around the campground, out to the store or beach, I think it'd be great. Day-long sightseeing trips of a few 100 miles not so much.

You'll probably have to fab your own base plate or hire a fabber to build one. PLEASE don't chintz on that. Buggie is still heavy enough to really hurt somebody if it comes un-done in tow.
The VW tow bars clamp on to the lower front beam tube. Very simple, cheap, works good.

I won't have to beat you up. Your wife will do that much better than I could.

I would love to build another baja Bug, a SCORE/BITD class 5-Unlimited. They've opened up the rules to allow using water cooled engines up to 2.5 liters in 5-unlimited, which should be very fun! :B I'd like to build one with a Subaru boxer and a Mendeola 5 speed.

My '66. Should have never sold it.

I have 20/20 hind sight also. smiles

If it wasn't for insurance cost and storage space, I would have one! But if I have to choose, I'll take the CRV. A/C, heater and wipers that work, reliable and much safer.

Did my Bug time back in the day!

Even better! I met a man probably 15 years ago who towed a Beetle with a very bulky very home made looking base plate. Glad there's a better option!

I towed a Baja Bug for about 20k miles. Simple and fun for getting around. Finally sold it because we started going in all seasons and without a heater or AC it got a little uncomfortable. fun and easy to fix. Go for it

If you want a really fun tow vehicle without heat or any safety features to speak of and like to tinker, go for it! Hard to compare a VW dune buggy and a Honda CRV, they have nothing in common other than tires made of rubber, a steering wheel and powered by a gasoline engine. ๐Ÿ™‚
