WARNING: Samsung Residential Refrigerator from Camping World

This may be old news but I recently purchased a 2018 3721RL Montana from Camping World. Short story...Samsung Fridge has already stopped working. Freezer works great..Fridge doesn’t cool down. Called Camping World and service informed me “we only sell Samsung Fridges, but we don’t fix them.” Probably a blessing in disguise keeping my Montana away from those fools. I have a call in to Samsung to attempt the next steps in getting a brand new Samsung Refrigerator to work properly.

If you are buying a Montana from Camping World with a Samsung Residential Refrigerator make sure it works!

Samsung as a company has gone down hill in the last 5 years or so in my opinion.

I've had various appliance problems in our house ranging from cheap plastic knobs breaking, dim LCD display too weak to read, and now our 3 year old, super expensive, fresh out of warranty TV just bricked.

I will never buy a Samsung product again.

I was able to repair the warm freezer on my Samsung refrigerator after doing some additional research. The automatic defrost system on these refrigerators has a few issues but the most common one is easily fixed. The ice up problems may also affect refrigerator temps. The total cost of the repair was $12.50!

It’s nice to have hard ice cream again!

Every piece of electrical equipment has the potential to fail. The Samsung in my rig has been faithful for a couple of years now. It worked so good that I bought a Samsung for my residence. I did have the icemaker problem that was well, known but Samsung fixed it quickly. I always use the on line site for reporting problems and have never had a problem with service. As far as folks talking about banging around going down the road.....wow, if my rig was that rough I would seriously look into what the problem is.

LOL
I mean really...LOL
You don't want "those fools" to come anywhere near your Montana. Too late...you bought it from "those fools" already. Why did you knowingly buy it from fools in the first place? Seems a bit ironic at this point.

To your last statement, of course people should make sure it works when they buy it. But that's not your problem. Yours broke after you bought it. You implication is that "Montanas" from "Camping World" with "Samsung" fridge is going to be a problem. There's a lot of presumption there.

Rant over, off to work where I can truly be cynical.

My take on the residential fridge in an RV is were they designed to take the movement and shock they are subjected to in an RV application? I would be curious to see a design engineer for one of the manufacturers honest response to that question. Its such a miniscule part of their market I would bet against that consideration ever coming onto the table. I would assume they are designed to be delivered to a residence and sit in one position until they **** out, which is usually quicker than one would expect. Not to be constantly taking road shock, bouncing and movement you have in an RV, especially a towable.
Too many geezers, self appointed moderators, experts, and disappearing posts for me. Enjoy. How many times can the same thing be rehashed over and over?

Good to see Camping World stepping in to help their customer! Easier to pass the buck though. That's why most on this forum won't set foot in a CW.

OP bought a 2018 Montana from those creeps and they told him to go pound sand! Great customer service!

The warranty is with Samsung, not the retailer. Camping World isn't to blame for anything here.

The warranty (probably not the same model, but I suspect it's the same terms for all of their refrigerators) doesn't say anything about RV or mobile use. The closest it comes is that it doesn't cover "applications and uses for which this product was not intended." But, there's no way a consumer could know their (undocumented) intent, so that would probably get thrown out in court if they tried to make that stretch, since it's being used for its only obvious intended purpose - keeping food cold. Not that trying to take them to court would make any sort of economic sense.

But the warranty also requires that "the product must be unobstructed and accessible from floor level" for in-home service. Probably not the case in an RV, so "it may be necessary to remove, repair and return the product." The OP should removed it, set it in the home garage (or in a weather protected area outside the RV), and call in for warranty service. If they're in an "in-home" service area, someone will come fix it, otherwise they'll need to decide if it's worth taking/shipping it to a service center.

Complaining here isn't going to fix it. And blaming Camping World is misplaced.

I would say their first clue would be a service call to a rv!:S

Not a dig at CW, but you’ll be better served by a residential repair person. Warranty would be by Samsung anyway assuming they cover it being in an RV.

I guess if Samsung would not warranty it because it is in an RV they should not sell them to RV manufacturers.

How is Samsung going to know where their product is going to be used? Samsung is only the manufacturer and not the distributor. I bought mine from Home Depot

That is actually fairly common.. I bought a Fridge from an appliance store for my house. "We only sell 'em. We don't fix 'em" They did, however, send me to the local fix-it company.

My Samsung residential refrigerator’s freezer has stopped freezing after 3 years. A review of the Samsung support forum shows hundreds (no exaggeration) of frustrated customers with similar issues. Some have brand new home installed units that failed within weeks of delivery and they were not able to be repaired - only replaced. Others like me are out of luck and will be forced to buy another Samsung to fit in the cabinet space without modification. I live in my RV all winter at one spot and having the residential refrigerator is great. The problem is that they simply aren’t supported to the degree of traditional RV appliances and the added risk associated with RV’s (trailer built around the refrigerator) should factor into the decision on whether residential refrigerators are worth it.

Samsung refrigerators are notorious for this. Google the problem.
I will never buy another Samsung. I went through two in about 4 years.
The second one was directly given to me after they couldn't fix the first. Then the second one did the same thing.
Lost all the food both times.
