Water Transfer

Do any of you use a water transfer pump to refill your trailer from water you brought when you go dry while boondocking? I saw a guy using a 5 gallon container and a large funnel. Seems there should be an easier way.

Using an older but still working RV water pump is best, but here's another cheap idea.

If you're carrying a drill with you, go to any hdwr store and they'll sell a cheap pump that you power with your drill motor. They're about $11. The pump will have hose fittings on both sides of it. You can buy several feet of cheap clear plastic tubing to fit over the hose fitting. I use this set-up for pumping my RV antifreeze for winterizing.

I bought one of these, a very cheap one, I got what I paid for, it never worked the first time, being so cheap I just threw it away, now looking for an electric pump,AC or DC doesn't really matter, but now the Shur Flow sounds like it may be the answer.

I have one of these Harbor Freight pumps It is a very well made pump.

I use this:

Aquatank II

and the on-board water pump to transfer water from the bladder into the freshwater tank via the city fill port.

To accomplish this, I hook up the bladder to the winterizing port, move the lever to "Winterize", and then hook up the fresh water hose to the outside shower by unscrewing the shower head and using one of these adapters.

After running the fresh water hose from the outside shower to the city water fill inlet, I open the cold water valve on the outside shower and turn on the water pump.

I was considering a 55 gallon plastic drum with a transfer pump. Last time I used a 6 gallon container and just poured it in the opening, it was a pain in the rear.

I have a 60 gallon PVC drum that I use for spare water at the races. I fill up the barrel then lay it on it's side in the bed of the truck. On the barrel cap I have a fitting with a hose connection and a valve. I am able to hook up a hose and gravity drain the barrel into my fresh water tank. I also use an electric submersible fountain pump that I purchased for about $15 at Harbor Freight. I bought about 20' of the clear plastic water tubing which hooks up to the pump and I run it into the fresh water tank. Pump transfers the water very quick and it works great.

I have a 5 gal jug, and funnel - and I have a 40 gal pillow tank and a pump.

If I just need a little more water for a day or so - the 5 gal. If needing more - the 40 gal tank. (FW tank on TT - 42gal).

If water fill is in the CG, I'll fill the pillow tank with it on top of the cab of the truck and use gravity to fill the TT tank. If water fill is outside the CG (or poor water quality in the CG) - the pillow tank goes in the bed of the truck, and use the pump to fill the TT.

I'd need a heck of a tall table, my gravity fill is chest high on my MH.
I fill mine from the overflow hose which is at the bottom of my freshwater tank

I bought a 60 gal Water Boy with electric pump. Works great and the bladder is collapsible. Not cheap, around $230 as I recall but very handy. I leave it in the bed of the truck when transferring water.

I have an old Sureflow pump that I have rigged up like many other previous posters. However I find it quicker to use my 5 gallon solar shower from my back packing days to add 5 -10 extra gals to the tank I hang the shower bag off my awning strap and just let it drain into the main tank.

Here is a diagram of how I modified my fresh water system so that water can be drawn in from any vessel. There is no need for extra pumps, battery clips, switches or extension cords.

I flip the water control valve from normal/city to sanitize tank and just let the on-board pump draw water into the tank with a small length of fresh water hose. I can draw water from any vessel that holds water, even little 16 oz water bottles if absolutely necessary.
