took my 2011 Forester River RV into Ford dealer for check engine light.
I bought it on Nov of 2010, I was informed by the dealer that my Ford powertrain warranty ran out on 7/5/13 (19 days ago). Ford came with 3 years / 36k miles warranty, so my warranty shouldn't ran out till November 2013. or did Forester bought the chassis from Ford on 7/5/10, that it starts its warranty then ?

thanks.

The chassis should have been shipped to the motorhome manufacturer as an incomplete vehicle, and once the motorhome was built, then often a new VIN is assigned to the motorhome for registration purposes. The chassis manufacturer will continue to use their VIN for maintenance tracking and warranty issues. This is the key part and germane to your problem: Once the motorhome is sold, the dealer should notify the manufacturer who will submit or the dealer himself will submit a delayed start warranty notification to the chassis manufacturer. This apparently did not happen so the chassis manufacturer has to rely on their sale date as the warranty start date.

To correct the problem, contact the motorhome manufacturer and insist they intercede on your behalf with a delayed warranty start date notification to the chassis manufacturer.

I wonder if the warranty of a modified vehicle may be shorter than a regular car or truck?

Dig up your purchase papers / receipts. My understanding is that most warranties start "from date of purchase", basically what BeverlyandKen posted.

Find out what the "In Service Date" is, this is when the warranty starts officially.

Get in touch with a Ford Representative and get him to correct the dealers confusion........

Warranty period starts the day you sign papers....if purchased new.

I have a Ford E-450 RV and my warranty started the day I bought it. Fortunately I haven't had any trouble except a fuel pump failing after 8 yrs. My local Ford dealership absolutely refuses to work on my RV with the reason it won't fit inside their garage bay doors so I found a service center that works on large trucks and motorhomes as well so I got lucky. Good luck.

It should start start from the days your bought it from the the Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier (i.e. MH manufacturer).
Ours was a year old but never sold/put into service until we purchased it from the MH dealer. It needed new wiper blades when were we driving home, the Ford dealer did not have any record of the vehicle in their computer at the time. It took about a week for the MH dealer to get the 'paper' work to Winnebago, then Winnebago to Ford(US0 and then have it forwarded to Ford(Canada). The Ford dealer did honor the warranty and said that they would deal with it after.

You would have to check with your MH and/or Forrester to see when the MH was original put into service, possibly as a demo.

Can't say on RV's, but my 2010 Expedition warranty is 3 years bumper to bumper, which would include check engine light. It is MUCH longer for the powertrain, which does NOT include check engine light. Perhaps that is the confusion?
