These have been posted by Rangers and others, a result of an inversion in the canyon.

If you are on FB, type in Grand Canyon.

We are members of the Grand Canyon Association and at least twice a day my DW checks the GC Webcams, yesterday morning the picture was grey. No color no nothing just fog. I think the cam is by the ice cream parlor at the lodge. Had to be a strange sight to say the least.

I'd bet to donuts that smoke was caused by the coal fired generating station in Page. It is a HUGE polluter of the area. It socks in CanyonLands often enough too.

I am certainly not a fan of pollution, and am aware of the large Navajo Generating Station near Page, AZ. In this case there had been a wildfire burning in the Kaibab National Forest for about a week prior to my Grand Canyon visit.

While camping at Wahweep, near Page, I took a photo of Lake Powell which certainly both beautiful and mysterious. However. the lake was formed by damming Glen Canyon which is certainly a type of environmental pollution. The dam does produce considerable electric hydro-generation which reduces air pollution, so I guess we pick our poison when it comes to electricity.

Took this picture from the South Rim. There was a forest fire on the North Rim and the smoke was spilling over the edge filling the canyon - Made for an unusual picture.

Beautiful, thanks for sharing. I was traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway one morning when we had a bright sunny sky above us but had clouds below us. Lasted for a couple hours.

Very cool! We were there in June 98 for our honeymoon (stayed in Vegas and took a day trip to the canyon). didn`t bring any jackets and we were dressed in shorts and t-shirts, well Vegas was unseasonably cool 70 degrees the entire week we were there that is warm for those of us from the midwest. when we got to the canyon there was a high of 52 deg.!!! I still remember not being able to completely enjoy the Canyon, but it was beautiful!

For those that were there for the event that happened, that is something that most people will probably never see!

Beautiful pictures!

We often see the same thing, as we look down on a canyon from the side of a mountain and it's always wonderful to behold.

Imagine a trip of a lifetime to see the Grand Canyon. You only have two days and this is all you see.
That's what I was thinking. Still, a fascinating event.
