I lost another Grand-dog

Spot was a huge beast - a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Standard Poodle. Never met a person he didn't immediately love....LOL! Watched his humans marry, and was gentle with the children who came into his world.

Spot and the first baby:

Poor dog never photographed well, being black....

Was the dog who fell through the ice that I rescued... while falling in myself...brrrrrrrr.

But my daughter always worried that Spot was going to inherit the short-lived BMD traits....so when Spot started to lose weight, she took him to the Vet. And discovered the sweet boy had a chest filled with cancer 😞 In spite of that, he was cheerful and friendly; but they chose to have his life end on a happy note instead of waiting for him to decline.

I'm going to miss the big lunk.

Just lost our gran-dog Jamie. 15 year old English Shepherd. She just wore out from a life of living it to the fullest. Loved people, walks, going on hikes, camping. Jamie would have made a lousy guard dog as she would have wanted to make friends with the bad guys. Going to miss her. It;s strange how you can tell some people we have grand-dogs in the same breath as grandkids and they go "huh" while others understand completely.

Sorry about your loss, too.... 😞

When you raise your kids to love animals, it's inevitable that they will need pets in THEIR lives, too; and since we often babysit our grandpets - yes, they're just an extension of the family 🙂

Sounds like a lovely spot. A flowering tree and a bench would be nice additions. I have plans for where we buried our puppy and where we will add others when it is their time.

Thank you, everyone, for the kind words (((HUG!)))

Last night we visited Spot's grave - bless my son-in-law... they JUST bought 10 acres in the country, so my SIL carried Spot's body a quarter-mile across rugged ground, so he can "watch over the property" from a beautiful hill 🙂

So sorry Deb. What a wonderful family dog, I know he'll be missed.

The situation reminded me of our Buddy, lab/husky (we think) mix who came to us when his owner developed alzheimer's, did the weight loss, slow down, exercise intolerance. Amanda had just died so we chose to go a little while but after about a month and a wonderful vacation, he told us it was time. Chest full of golf ball sized tumors, it was really amazing that he was walking at all.

We know how you all feel right now, the remembering softens the blow as time goes on. The good times really occupy almost all of our thoughts, and smiles come with the memories.

Sorry for your loss.

I'm not sure which hurts worse, loosing one you've had a lifetime (their lifetime) with or loosing a puppy you've worked hard to save whose life is full of promise.

Always heart-breaking to say good-bye to a pet. Otis didn't want any more dogs because he took losing our Haylie so badly. I kept reminding him of the happiness that they bring to our lives. Agnes

So very sorry to hear about your loss and to his family, too.

The last act of love and kindness we can do for the fur kids is the hardest.
