Clear Valterra Waste Cap

I wanted to try the Valterra T1020-1CLR Clearview Waste Valve Cap - 3" with Capped 3/4" GHT for some time. A recent thread reminded me, so I ordered two for my trailer with two drains. This didn't work out well.

First, the stickers had to be removed so that one could actually see thru the clear cap and that was wasn't easy. Also, I might get cancer now if I use these in California.

Second, the 3/4" hose connection threads were way too tight and the caps couldn't be installed. I spent over an hour lapping them with valve grinding compound. Now they fit properly.

Third, these things only have two locks instead of the more reliable four, and they have no detent to keep them in place.

Fourth, I tried to install them and they would not go. The gaskets are super glued in place at four locations and that prevents them from being compressed enough for the locking tabs to be engaged. I dug out one gasket destroying it in the process and my spares are of a different design.

Fifth, one locking tab on each has an air bubble weakening it.

I am requesting a refund, they are totally useless.

Just scan a standard cap with your laser scanner and print it clear on your 3D printer :B

I got mine off the shelf at CW and they work great without any mods. Nice to see if there is any liquid present and if so to be able to drain it without taking off the entire cap. My trailer has two dump stations.

I bought one to avoid surprises and I wanted a cap with a garden hose output that I can use either to easier drain those surprises or drain the gray tank with a garden hose, like when at home.

Thanks, fixed it. That's it. I can see the gasket isn't glued, it has 4 lugs and they have detents, and doesn't look like it has a sticker. Since I have Prime, no shipping charge.

One more question, is there a replacement gasket available? I don't see the kind with the nipples that stick thru on any website.

Your link doesn't work. You may have found these.

I did find them at Tweetys and might buy them, but they are still made by the same company.

eTrailer has that cap for $9.04 and they have a brief video.

Just ordered one of these. The pix looks like they addressed most of the OP's issues. I'll report back once I get to use it a while...

Clear elbows---better than television!

Hint--every so often tighten the clamp where the hose goes on the elbow (don't ask). When the hose drops down into the sani-dump tube, a broom handle is long enough to pry it back up and out (don't ask)

Actually I wondered about the clear cap too, since I also have the clear elbow. But it's nice to hear that it didn't and why it didn't work. Beats the heck out of that so commonly used description: "Don't buy it, it's junk."

Hmmm, one wonders, why does one need a clear plastic cap?

I suppose, one thinks that seeing if there is a surprise waiting, before removing the cap, might be a good idea.

There is always a surprise waiting behind mine, the only question is how much. It's just a trickle, caused by motion of the coach draining the low spots in the waste lines. Probably a few ounces, but seems like a lot more once it has hit the ground.

So I'm not sure I really get the point of having this. I mean, you're going to have to remove the cap regardless, so why not just loosen the hose cap which will at least keep the stream to a minimum of mess?

Now, clear elbows are a thing to be loved. Wouldn't be without that.

Made me look. I bought one of these around Christmas but it's in the box with other TT stuff. My garden hose connection is fine, no bubbles in the two "locking" tabs. I think I saw another brand of these. Figured Valterra would be better. I was mistaken.

Now this is the kind of review I like to see. Clear and explanatory, you know exactly what is wrong with them. Not some generic "They didn't fit and I couldn't make them fit so I'm sending them back" nonsense.
