Dash camera recommendations

I did a search... and only came up with 6 hits for "dash camera" on this forum?? That seems odd.

Sooooo.... people experienced with dash cameras, what is your recommendation? Wife wants ideas for gifts, and I mentioned a dash camera. We just have no idea which one to buy, or which features are important.

What would be nice, but not a deal breaker, is adding a rear camera - preferably wireless if they have those? I assume I could use it for backing up and hitching.

I haven't purchased a dash cam yet, though I kind of have it on my list of things to get done. As some have suggested, read a lot of reviews, CNet, other sites. I would also suggest this site for dash cam reviews. This guy reviews radar detectors and also dash cams and he is very very good, very thorough in his reviews. I’ve got two of these and like them a lot. This model has GPS, and is currently on sale for a very good price on the DOD online store. Alas, it’s currently sold out there, but you may be able to order one on Amazon. The ones on Amazon look like last years model tho.

One camera that keeps coming up on "best of" general internet searches is Garmin... No one here has one of those?

I had thought it would be common to have a rear camera somehow built in / wireless connected. I guess not?

Vexing V1. One in each vehicle. One of them ended an argument quickly once the responding Officer viewed the video.
BTW never be involved in an accident in SC unless you are a resident and have hours to wait for a Trooper while local LEOs whiz by. And then at the time you had to mail them a check to get a copy of the accident report so the insurance co will pay. Everything else is on their website but accident reports. What is this, 1975? The accident was in Oct of 2018, maybe they've changed that nonsense.

🙂 Hi, I have had two different dash cameras; The problem that I had was since they sit inside of the windshield, they get too hot and shut off.

Viofo is the OEM manufacturer. Spytec sells them under their name. Same thing.

I've gone through three of those in short order. All replaced under warranty but none lasted very long. The last one works but now the GPS base is dead and I have power connected directly to the cam.
I warn people against them.

I have had a mid $100s Garmin for about 5 years. Good picture. Records vehicle speed. Records GPS location. Always on. You never know when that moment will occur.
