Home Brew Winshield Washer Fluid

I could use some tips. There's zero distilled water down here so I use reverse osmosis water. For every "liter" I add 10-drops of dishwashing liquid. But what next? Ammonia? Clear grain vinegar? I should prep a gallon seperately. Use with a plastic mesh pot scrubber. I forgot to order a California Squeegee (silicone). Are they worth the money? Regular squeegee rubber seems to go bad too quickly. It'd be nice to have a pot scrubber and silicone squeegee on the end of a handle. Fast roadside wipedown. Mexican drivers seem to have superior vision. They peer through glass that is near opaque.

Misery was finding washer tubing. Fifteen dollars. I am going to try the "Tuffy" glued to a squeegee and the silicone water scraper. Rain X. I am glad I went bankrupt painting Quicksilver with Imron. Nothing touches it even seagull souvineers.

The cleaning vinegar bottle calls for 1/2 cup per gallon of water . BTW I found the cleaning vinegar in the cleaning supply section at Walmart . Craig

Rain X, once a month.. 20 plus years ...
if you Wax the paint... Rain X will not damage it.

clean the wiper blade edge every few months with rubbing alcohol and a paper towel .

From here Wal-Mart, Soriana, Bodega Aurrera, Gigante, Commercial Mexicana / Mega either 625 miles to the north or 377 miles to the south. Zero distilled water except battery water in Refraccionarias. 48 pesos for 625 ml. Two dollars fifty cents plus for a pint of distilled water? I love it. It's labeled "Liquido Para Baterias" and no it's not electrolyte. Pure water at twice the price of Magna. Wotta hoot. The cost of a gallon of Acme generic windshield cleaner in Wal-Mart USA is close to the price of a gallon of distilled water. For sanity's sake I'll stick with reverse osmosis agua purificada and doctor it. Buy a gallon of distilled water for the Gohneria battery.

Craig,

Do you mix the cleaning vinegar with water, if so, what ratio do you recommend?

According to a professional window cleaner in my area... A little Dawn and cleaning vinegar. I just found the vinegar at Walmart. Ammonia and water does great on the vinyl interior. Craig

Yep. Last time I entered a swarm I had to stop midway because my car overheated. I ran out of ww fluid and the schmushed grasshoppers plugged the radiator grill. It wasn't pretty. Are we having fun yet?

Here in Monterrey and on our rv adventures throughout Mexico we always find distilled water at a Soriana, Comerical Mexicana, etc. It's usually with the irons or in the automotive department. Auto parts stores and supermercados abound and they sell all kinds of windshield cleaners.

Stupid bugs bake hard in 3 hours with Mexican intense sun. I'll try RainX and maybe it'll be enough to keep them from galvanizimg to the glass. Plain water bubbles up and smears.

Yeah BTDT. In Baja south of the 28th with crushed bugs in front so thick that I couldn't even see out the windshield or tell the color of the vehicle. Water and time eventually softens most of it. Then a mix of everclear, ammonia, and a brillo pad removes the remaining debris followed by windex and a squeeqe. The locals will do it for very reasonable prices if you don't have the time or want the job.

I think they are. I bought one ten years ago and it is still working good. I don't use it on bugs too much, mostly for removing car wash water. It excels at that.
Some of these hard silicones are really marvels. My silicone dive max is still supple after 15 years. That is 14 years 11 mos. in storage and two dive trips.

Totally Awesome ($1.00 spray bottle and $3.00 for refill gallon)from dollar general)does a good job of removing bugs on my TV. I spray it on let it set for a few minutes and then remove with a sponge and water.

rain x is nice on glass not nice on paint when it dries. can cause permanent spotting, streaks etc.

Mex, your on the right track with mineral free water, hard water leaves spots on anything it dries on and they are hard to remove.

the stuff in the stores I use 20 10 brand works good lists ingredients as alcohol, and soponafiers e.g. soap and water. there is enough alcohol that you smell it, and I think the alcohol actually helps desolve the bugs as well as not freezing.

amonia is a good glass cleaner, but again, not something I'd like getting on my paint, but I'm pretty anal about keeping paint looking shiny and new.

also treating the window with rainx or griots garage windshield treatment that i find is even better does make it easier to get the bugs off.
