I Have Questions $$$$$$$$$$$$

I have a question:

Automobile mechanics make fifty some odd dollars an hour, flat rate.

FAA/PMA certified mechanics make slightly more than half of that.

An auto repair shop tech gets a repair order. He surveys the job. The faster he works the more money he makes. Bolts get stripped or forgotten, he has no clue as to how to go about troubleshooting so he invents some weird problem so he gets paid normal wage.

I had to be FAA/PMA certified to work on aircraft charging, starting and electrical. In that area there is (or was) -zero- latitude for incompetence.

Celso, the local mechanico shakes his head when i tell him stuff like this.

"The Americanos, they must have too much money".

California, shop labor rate 110 dollars a hour, mechanic makes 50% Sorta pricey driving a few thousand miles to save 30 dollars an hour or so.

Around here the tech's are lucky to get 20% of the customer rate.

rjxj,

Dadburn it! Busted! Well it was fun while it lasted. But then again I learned some characteristics about folks. It'll pay off in the long run.

Wait!

I gotta take this to my next door neighbor the one with the brand new Cat loader and try and translate it without going into spasms of laughter.

Birdman is still on the right track. No I haven't forgotten my meds. I wonder I wonder and I wonder what mister birdman does for a living.

The forum was getting blase. Thought my post would liven it up a bit. It did the trick. Very revealing. Thanks all. Time for this thread to slam shut.

This, A GREAT Observation...Your point is not lost on me Mex!! I might add that when I occasionally need a casual laborer I can't hardly find a gringo. About 15yrs ago, I hired a young College summer break kid once to help carry 5gal buckets of gravel along side of me for a parameter drain system, and he quit before the lunch break - to top this off, I'd even bought him the lunch of his choosing!! (LOL)...I ended up moving the remaining 17 yards alone...Hopefully, this one experience earned the lazy kid a Phd!!

Perhaps it is because the "Americanos" are smart enough to know the difference between working hard, working smart and doing things that are just plain stupid. Moving 17 yards of gravel in 5 gallon buckets falls into the third category.

So manual labor, at least as a 'beginners job' is just plain stupid??...And the "Mexacanos" take a back seat at figuring this all out??...(thus, it must be their own pre-ordained fault...)...Sounds to me like you might benefit from a bit of real work yourself!!

I don't see the local day labor pool filled with fresh faced "Americano" college grads looking to do manual labor. Americanos either hire someone to do that manual labor of use the proper equipment to make the task efficient. Smart workers figure ways to get things done efficiently and economically. They don't move tons of gravel in 5 gallon buckets.

Yet in all your blissful presumption, you know 'zero' about the actual scope of the job, nor why it necessitated the aforementioned bucket transiting...'Life' must be Sweet, eh!!

I blissfully do know how much 17 yards of gravel is, and how many 5 gallon buckets it would take to move it, and approximately how much each of those buckets would weigh. It would take over 600 completely full buckets, each weighing in at nearly 100 lbs, to move 17 yards of common 3/4 minus gravel. Even at an unbelievably fast pace of 1 bucket every 5 minutes (fill, transport, empty, return, repeat no time to spread), it would take over 50 hours of non-stop hauling to move that pile bucket by bucket. So I guess you can say I am calling BS to the whole scenario you laid out.

You'd be wrong again, it took me about a month of hot August evenings after my 12hr regular job to get it done before the foundation damaging rains would begin (this, just one phase of the challenging up hill job...). I do hope you're well 'pedigreed' Sir!

What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

To demean a whole class of workers because you hate spending money on car repairs doesn't gain a lot of respect about the author's judgement.
Have you been skipping your meds, Mex?

I can't hardly believe the 'overreaction' to the OP...I took it merely as a matter of relative perspectives between folks in a less developed country vs those in our opportunity laden highly modernized society...Don't see a need to overthink it, just be glad for your GOOD Fortune!!

NO this thread will end with little drones buzzing us with diodes, resistors, transistors and all kinds of scrap electrical parts dropping on us.
Not to worry! If they are made by the op they will never get off the ground.
