Ok so i just got a rv couple months ago, and i live in it full time. I usually use a protable camping stove for cooking. But now am trying to use indoor stove but cant seem to get it to work. Ive turned on the gas, yes it has gas 1\2 tank. And when i go to lite the stove its like there is no gas comming out. It has its own ignitor but ive tired matches also. I cant even small the propane. What am i missing? Very hungry right now. Lol going to use microwave i guess till i fiqure it out. I know it works cause when i got it the guy turned it on. Thanks for anyhelp you can give.

Someone posted above to have the tanks filled. Not quite necessary at this point to troubleshoot. Take the tank(s) out, weigh them on a bathroom scale. Find the TARE weight stamped on the top of the tank and subtract that from the total weight. Remaining is how many pounds of propane you have.

Assuming you have "some", replace the bottles, reconnect the regulator and hoses and slowly open one or both bottles.

If you have an automatic changeover valve, point the handle towards the heaviest/fullest bottle. You should have a green indicator on the changeover valve, if installed.

Continue troubleshooting as noted above - especially the shutoff valve on the stove. Typically, (if not otherwise marked) the valve handle indicates ON if in-line (parallel) with the gas line and OFF if perpendicular with the gas line.

Troubleshoot in a methodical, logical flow.
Start at the tank. Do I have propane?
Open the valve slowly.
Is automatic switchover valve installed/working/set?
Follow the gas flow to first place you do or do not have gas.

I might of missed something in this post...But If you've never used the stove before, the old owner might of turned off gas to the stove at the stove shut off valve. Ours has a small shut off valve under the stove top. Sometimes when we winterize wife likes to shut it off.

You have to push the knobs on the stove in before turning then to on. Push the burner knob in to the stove itself and then turn to on. Gas should then flow.

On the propane (Explosive gas) Detector.....

These come in two types.. .. So let's leave it for a moment and go outside and look at the gas tank. I will describe a class A motor home system. This is fairly common though two parts are optional.

You have the tank, and it's valve

Coming off that you may have a brass "T" like thing (Extend-a-stay) or not, this is an optional after market part.

Then comes the regulator, Normally it is what is sometimes called "White metal" though it's more gray/sliver in cloor, one or two disc shaped things, and there will be a removable, usually plastic, screw like thing on one of 'em in many cases.

And beyond that is another option.. an electric solenoid valve

IF YOU HAVE THIS VALVE, then the propene detector is your problem.. SOME models of propane detectors control this valve, You need one that does this,

The idea is if they go into alarm state, they SHUT OFF the valve.

NOTE valve can be on the tank side of the regualtor as well.

What does an electric propane solenoid valve look like?

Check out the owner's manual for your water heater, or just open the outer door on the water heater compartment and look, there is one there and it's obvious since it's just before the burner assembly, it has both pipes and wires going to it.

Are you connected to an electrical supply? Your propane detector going off, including new one, may indeed be a sign of a low battery. If it is low enough for detector not to work, your solenoid likely won't work, either.

I have to run, 9hrs + trip this am, but there are some pretty good troubleshooters on here. I'm sure they'll get you going in no time.

Good luck!

Take the solenoid valve (the thing w/ the wires) out of the line, and connect the regulator direct to the tank valve, and the propane will work.

Take the cut ires and twist them together this will bypass the propane sensor and energize the valve on the line allowing gas into the coach.i suggest replacing the detecter and you should be good to go

I have a LP propane detector, but when looking at it the wires were cut. Were the detector was. So i bought a battery opt one from home depot. When i tired the switch it just beeped on me and the light didnt come on. Doesnt have a reset just on/off. I dont use the fridge yet and the lights do work inside.

When you try to light the stove, does air come out of the burners and blow against the lighter flame? If no, then no propane or the valve isn't opening. If yes then you might need to just wait a bit longer with the valve open and a flame by the burner.

Just make sure to keep a flame by the burner so you can't get a buildup of Propane in the coach. Maybe you can put one of those little tea lite candles like they put in jack o lanterns next to the burner and then turn on the burner.

Don't trust any gauges. Take the propane tank(s) out and get it refilled. Then purge the lines at the stove. If there is no air/gas coming out of the stove when the propane tank is full and turned on, then your regulator needs replacing. They go out more frequently than you'd imagine.

OP has a 1997 Class C (Tioga)

Can you light the stove top burners.......simplest propane appliance. Turn burner knob ON and light it with a BBQ lighter.
If you can't get that to light then problem is with the propane supply.
Either tank is empty regardless of gauges
OR propane can't flow because shut-off solenoid isn't/won't open.....
Do you have 12V DC power inside coach> Lights work, fridge panel lights on etc.
Check for a 'LP Propane Detector'.....panel located down low on a cabinet etc. IT has to be ON (lights on/reset) before propane tank solenoid will open.
Is it time for your medication or mine?
