Safe-T-Alert Propane Gas Alarm

Has anyone had issues with Safe-T-Alert going off for no apparent reason? Happened twice last night. We tested with butaine lighter this morning and the alarm works properly. No gas smell. Our Navion is a 2016 so it is under the 5 years replacement suggestion. Just vacuumed and wiped down.

Being in fire service, I like redundancy! I added an extra smoke alarm, an extra CO detector (with an actual LCD display of parts per million), but I didn't have a second flammable gas detector. Last summer my gas detector likewise activated one day, when it was very windy and warm enough we had windows open. Hmmm.... know it wasn't CO, my second detector had no readings. So, bad detector, or flammable leak? No odor, illogical it would have been detecting gas under moving air conditions. Solved my dilemma by getting a second gas detector. Operates off 5V micro-usb input. About $40. Here's the link: https://smile.amazon.com/Propane-Natural-Detector-Combustible-Explosive/dp/B077XS87LN/ref=sr_1_4?cri...

Made it clicky.

1. Voltage fluctuations(12 volt) can sometimes trip a detector.
2. Are you POSITIVE it is a LP only? Most current RV's have a combo CO and LP detector. It will state on the detector
3. The instructions state to NEVER use a BUTANE lighter to test. Never asked WHY. But they do state that. Here is the copy from the manual.

TESTING ! WARNING: DO NOT USE A CIGARETTE LIGHTER TO TEST THE ALARM
4. Other things in the RV can set it off. Hair spray residual Pam cooking spray. ANY spray type can. Perfume and cologne. Doug

PS, When I test I turn on a Range burner and cup up a cup with my hands and then go to the detector and open my hands. The PPM is more than enough to test.

X2.. The detectors have an expiration date, and it's cheap insurance to just get another. Unless your coach battery is going dead. But that will only make it beep every few seconds, not make it go off. And last but not least, make sure you really don't have a propane leak :W

Mine was doing that and I just unplugged the 12v wires in back of it for a few moments and I guess it reset when I plugged it back in. No more problems.

Assuming the battery voltage is fine... you need to replace the detector.

Yes, ours kept going off in our 2015 rig for no reason. The dealership replaced it, no more problemss. We were on the road, so they shipped it to us.
