I have been looking for a better way to supply power to medical equipment while boondocking in our MH and found these 154 pages. Read about 25 pages yesterday and went shopping today looking for the best price for the Honda and trying to find a local source for the Champion, found 5 of the Champion at a nearby Sam's Club for $489, didn't ask but there may be more in stock. I thought the 1 that was at auction might show the final bid so checked Sam's and read page 154, after that I have doubts about what would be best for us, maybe tomorrow I can cut open a box and see the production date.

Well, that initial test was all so quick and hard to comprehend. Anyway, so be it. I just wonder now if the production of the Champion 2000i ended in 2010?? Don't find anyone saying they have a 2011 mfg'ed Champion 2000i. Seems to be all old stock on the market? Some even now showing up on the internet outside the big box stores.

I hear you Floyd. Something doesn't add up.
Why is Sam's Club auctioning them off?

Costco-US is now carrying the parallel kit on its website (leftover inventory from Canada?), but I've yet to see the Champion 2000i in its US stores or online, but Costco continues to carry the Honeywell 2000 in its US stores.

Yet, we have been told that "hundreds of thousands of usage hours have been logged", that "Mechanical failures have been virtually non-existent", that "In excess of 250,000 units have been shipped in that year (not a documented number)", and that "Meanwhile units like the Honeywell have failed miserably and complaints/problems on the Generac 2000 are high."

Maybe a first run to find any problems and then a second run with updates?

Well, I just topped it off with oil and added a little gas. Was starting to have second thoughts when it wouldn't start. Quick check off the Big Poster that I set aside. DOOHHHHHHHHHH. Place the engine run button on (ON). Started right up fisrt pull. Operator error. Anyway I ran it a couple minutes with Eco off. All is good. Turned Eco on and it is very quite. Pulled out the Craftsman 2.3hp 12Amp Skillsaw. Eco (Off) quick flash of Overload, but no problem. Started it right up. Eco (On)same as above. Quick flash of overload light, but started it right up. I haven't got any numbers yet as I just got home. I will give a better update and try to post my quick video in a little while. Inititial Test

Just got home and unpacked the CPE2000i. The manufacture date is 07/2010.

Prof. what is the manufacture date on your 2. I will run some tests and see how it works. Hopefully I don't have any problems out of mine.

Hmm, I did find the Champion 2000i listed on Sam's Club auction but only wish I knew the MFG date. That's why I want to look before pulling the trigger. I want an Inverter gen but don't want to end with a head ache by getting one of the first production line units. Maybe 'oletop' will give his Mfg date?

Just checked the auctions. There is one listed. Current winning bid is $326. It ends today at 6:57 Centel Standard Time. Let me know if one of ya'll win it and how much the total is.

Goodluck,
David J.

Sorry guys for the delayed response. Here is how it happened. As I stated earlier I have been researching. I knew Sam's carried them. I did not know that Sam's has online Auctions. If you go to the Sam's Website to the far left of their tool bar there is an "Auctions" tab. They do not list them all of the time. I lost on the first one I bid on. I won the second one. I won the bid at $376 with tax and shipping it was $416 to the door. These are all brand new units. As I said there is not always one for sale. I was looking to buy another one and have not seen one yet. Since I let out the secret I will wait a while so as to let any of you get a good deal. I would hate to bid against ya'll and have to pay more. Goodluck with the Auctions. I finally get to go home today from offshore and play with my Generator. I also purchased a Briggs and Stratton Maintenance Minder digital hour meter. It is yellow so it should match the Genny nicley.

Thought I should update my situation. I took the gen back to Sams and just got a refund. I don't like to buy something and wish I really had something else. I prob won't use a gen that much anyway as we don't camp a whole lot, but if I buy another small inverter gen I'll just spring and get the Honda or Yamaha. Even though CPE's customer service was great and they were more than willing to send me the replacement part, it just left a real bad taste in my mouth that it died the 2nd day of operation.

Thanks for all the info guys!

Good luck. Thank you for sharing.

So far, I am good with these two. I've been running them here and there with the AC and charging my batteries. Hoping to get some dry camping in.

I have been looking at upgrading my litle no name generator for quite a while. I have learned much from this forum. I really appreciate all of the technical information as well as the real world results. I just purchased the CPE 2000 inverter Gen. for $415.00 shipped to my door. The unit is brand new in box and I am sure there are more available. The shipping may be different as I live in Louisiana and it was shipped from Texas. It shipped Friday morning and will arrive today which is Saturday. I think I will sell my other two 1000 watt no namers and buy another along with the parallel kit. Thanks for all of the valuable info and keep up the fine site.

Thanks again,
David J.

So, the source of this $415 "delivered to your door" generator would be appreciated.

I second that motion... all in favor...

Actually, I have my two, already. ๐Ÿ™‚

Interested to find more info' about your Texas bought Champion 2000i Inverter Generator. I live in Central Texas and could make a trip to locate this seller. Living in Texas, I would need to pay the Texas Tax but still, $415.00 is a real deal. I wouldn't be able to return the Champion if it is not coming from a big box store, but just maybe this source is one of the RV.Net good fellows. For me, I want to look before I buy. No Internet buying a generator for me, if it's not come from one of the big box stores. Please, post where to fine one of these $415 Champion 2000i's.

I am starting to wonder if there are not more corrective changes being made to the upgrade module than just an increase to a 400 ms delay. In the very least it seems like Champion is appropriately responsive to consumer problems.

No incoming news here.

As far as I know, the timing change is done within the module firmware via a programing unit. No physical changes have been made to components or design.

It would be nice to know what component(s) and why such a failure occurs. But, we have a 2 year parts warranty that will hopefully protect us from any major component issues and a company that is, like you noted, appropriately responsive to consumer problems.
