Trailer battery

My trailer is on a seasonal site. I closed it up Monday and brought home the battery that's on the front of the trailer. My detached garage is not heated. Should I leave that battery in the garage or bring it in my house? I live in central Indiana.

You beat me to it.

I personally would place it on a piece of wood though to keep if off the cold, wet ground, but that's just me.

I don't think batteries care about cold wet ground:B But, if you want to make sure your batteries are comfortable, then OK:) Doug

PS, I do the same thing. I don't want dirty wet bottoms on my batteries when I go to put them back in.

Lawn mower, motorcycles, TT - all live outside or in unheated barn all winter;
All fully charged and don't seem to be affected negatively during the winter;

Temps can get into the teens but not for long (NJ)

You can safely charge the battery and leave it in your unheated garage all winter. We leave in Ontario Canada where it does get cold. I leave 2 boat batteries and 1 car battery inplace all winter. They are disconnected so there is absolutely no load on them.

I have been doing that with the boat batteries for 40 years.

Come spring the batteries have hardly gone down at all.

Should be no different than a battery on a riding lawn mower. I have 2 John Deere's, both have batteries, both in an unheated garage. I keep a trickle charger on them all winter. Never a problem with them. They fire up the mowers in the Spring like fresh ducklings popping from it's egg shell!

Of course keeping them in a warmer environment is always nicer, but not necessary if the battery is charged.

I also live in Indiana. I leave my battery on the trailer and never take it off. Plugged in at home all the time. Snow, Ice, or tornado, it's always there. Charger on the camper maintains it. No problems.

Got the new 5er 2 weeks ago. Curious how this puppy will do through the winter. TT's always did just fine.

Fully charged a Trojan battery will freeze at...minus 92 degrees F. How cold is your garage? lol

What you want to avoid is extremes affecting battery -20F oerall is fine. A 0F concrete floor and 40F air temp isn't. it would definitely aggravate settling of gravity.

I leave my batteries outside all winter.
I fully charge them in October then disconnect them and leave them until April when they get a full charge again. Have been doing that for seven years with these batteries and they are still going strong.
They lose approx 15% charge over the winter, no need to keep them on a battery tender.

Take it home, place it on a piece of wood, plug it into a battery tender, check water level monthly.

Keep it off the ground and charging on a maintainer. From what I have been told, a fully charged battery will not freeze.

My one and only garage is separate from the house and not heated.

I would be keeping it in a warmer storage area, but not in the house. Attached garage?
