Unhappy with cooling unit from rvcoolingunit (Amish)

The replacement cooling unit for our Dometic failed in 1 year.
We have been living full-time for 12 years and did not want to be out of refrigeration again for a week (this is the second unit which failed). They refused to give any monetary compensation, warranty return only. We have thus lost $800.
RVing fulltime since 5/02

Go residential. I dumped my Norcold after its failure and went residential with no worries, and very quick cooling. Easy do and yes I dry camp for weeks at a time. Not difficult to figure out the power side of the equation.

Ok, one interesting comment I have seen is this:
Every company, no matter how good, occasionally turns out a lemon

And likewise every company no matter how bad, an occasional gold nugget.

What makes a GREAT company as opposed to a black tank filler company is the ratio of Gold to Lemon.

The Amish Built company has a very high gold/lemon ratio, but still, occasionally a bad one makes it into the field.

Whomever builds for Dometic and Norcold (I strongly suspect a single supplier but have no way to verify) the ratio is not nearly as good.

You build 1000 cooling units and you have a 1% failure rate---10 bad units
You build 1 MILLION cooling units and have the same failure rate 1%
Now you have 10,000 bad units. This product is out all over the world. You have 10,000 people upset. WHO gets more postings on the web?
Norcold cooling unis are built by Norcold in the USA
Dometic are built in Sweden, but they do have a 1 plant in the USA, but that plant may be shut down now. The majority of CU's are built in Sweden and shipped to the USA. Doug

The Amish cooling unit for my Dometic works twice as good as the oem.
I live in AZ where it's 115 + degrees in the summer and I still hold 34 degrees .
Cool down time is also half of OEM dometic.

Need more info from OP about who replaced the unit, is it always level, what failed and or what symptoms.

I replaced the cooling unit on my old trailer last year with an Amish unit (based on many positive reviews) and it works great. I agree on the quality looking better than the factory unit.

OP needs to provide more details (what is failing on this one as well as the original? who did the install?) if he's looking for much help.

From what I recall they offer a 1yr warranty on their cooling units but could be wrong. Believe you had to send your core back to them.

It might help others if we knew what the OP's failure mode was. Did it leak? If so, where? Did it stop cooling without the signs (or smell) of a leak?

The only thing I've read about the so-called "Amish" units is one company is better than the others by a long shot. Don't know the name, but there is one company that is consistently recommended here over the other "Amish" companies.

Read from their warranty. There seems to be a catch 22. First they state full refund FOR ANY CU, then they state after 90 days on NEW cooling units part and shipping only. Why are they no honoring either of the warranty terms? You state 2nd unit that failed. Does that mean you have had 2 new units from them? Doug

There will be a full refund for any cooling unit purchased from RV Cooling Unit Warehouse, if it fails to preform as we have stated.
All RV cooling units carry a 3 years replacement for any cooling problem and a limited 5 year replacment for leaks pro-rated, also will have the option for an extended warranty for 10 years. This does not apply to the ACDC models.

All returns, other than core returns, for a refund must be in writing and emailed sent prior to any refunds

Hi,

Take the offer. Then sell it on ebay and get a nice residential fridge.

I would not expect a refund. I just put an Amish unit in. Hope it lasts more than a year. The quality is heads and shoulders better than OEM.

I know it's a hassle but if they'll give you a warranty replacement then I think it's nice they're willing to do something. I would take the replacement.
BTW, can you see where it failed?

Who is doing the install? Sounds like something is causing the problem like improper installation.
