Water Tank Gage

For 13 years the sensors on my water tank gage have worked properly. Recently they locked up on 2/3ds full as the water ran out to the point I thought my water pump had failed.
Is there anything i can put in the tank to clean the sensors that won't contaminate the water supply?

Permanent solution is to install SeeLeveL gauges. They are pricey but are excellent. The sensors go on the outside and use an AM radio signal loop to sense the level. They read in smaller increments as well. I had to shorten the sensors and I still get readings in 5% increments.

Just Google for SeeLeveL and check it out. And no, I don't work for them or own stoc, I'm just a happy customer.

Although the SeaLevel system seems to be one of the best out there it can be messed up by too much crud building up on the tank walls.
The full timer that is parked next to us in AZ each winter had that issue with his system last winter.

The SeeLevel web site used to say "If sludge buildup in the tank becomes extreme the gauge will cease to operate (the tank will always read empty), so by monitoring the signal level the tank can be cleaned before the buildup gets excessive".

Now in chapter six in the owners manual it says:
"a. The signal power is an indication of how much signal is being
transmitted through the tank wall and picked up by the receive part of
the sender. If the signal power is too low, it can indicate a sender
which is detached from the tank, excessive buildup on the inside of the tank, bad wiring to the sender, low battery voltage, or a defective sender. The minimum signal power for proper operation is 5%.

From HERE

I have the non-contact sensor system Winnebago started using in 2005 and it can be fooled pretty easy. If I was going to replace it I would give the SeaLevel system a try.

I think you meant "1/4 cup of bleach per each 15 gallons of water" :).

yes I did!! Thanks for catching that. I did an edit and fixed it.

The sensors can be fooled if enough wet crud builds up on the tank wall.

Maybe you have algae on the fresh water tank walls. If so sanitizing with 1/4 cup of bleach per each 15 gallons of water should help.
I use the pump and run the treated water through the pipes and water heater and leave it overnight then flush everything out with fresh water.

Isn't that what the shower is for? When there is no water the potable water tank is empty. When the shower pan won't drain the grey tank is full.

My tank is under the trailer so this gage will not work.

Our fresh water indicator never worked right so I added a simple level gauge with some tubing connected to the pump suction line. The valve at the top keeps the pump from pulling air down the tubing.

No sensors or electronics to fail!
