Los Bomberos donan el camion de bomberos a San Lucas, Guatemala:
When you travel to Guatemala City (if you pass through San Lucas), see if the completely refurbished Crown Firecoach (Fire Engine) we donated (1998) to San Lucas is still there.
San Lucas is about 40 mi from Guat City.
The former was a cooperative effort/s by many So. CA FD folks and business, and flown (on a C-17) to Guat City in Dec of 1998.
Another was previously donated to Puerto Barrios in Jan 1988, along with radio equipment, etc. It went by ship.
Although weather is mild in Puerto Barrios (houses have screens only),
an unusual cold snap caught everybody -including residents- by surprise w/o any cold weather clothes.
More Ingles/Espanol (humor):
The Gringos that spent a couple of weeks in Puerto Barrios enhanced whatever bi-lingual abilities they had, by learning the Spanish word (after lots of sign language and gestures) for "Kaopectate" at the local Pharmacia, as well as the Spanish word for "Watchman" which evolved from security jobs during the sugar plantation days.

Kaopectate. Translation = Cow-peck-ta-tae....:S..:S
Watchman: Translation, none = Watcheemon...;)
Then there was the "genuine" Spanish speaker (LOL) who asked for.....
"Un plato de *camiones*, por favor"...:R
