Concerns about golf cart roof in back of pick up

It’s our first camp season with our new golf cart. We have a travel trailer and Ram 3500 dooly. The golf cart fits and can be secured just fine in the bed of the Ram to close the tailgate and haul the trailer.

Question is…what about the roof of the gold cart at 60-70 mph? There is a solar panel on the roof and taking it off is very difficult.

What recommendations does anyone have to secure the roof for travel? Does anyone think the roof will be ok without any further securing measures and why?

Thank you!

Golf carts are normally designed to be hauled to golf course (not everyone rents or stores golf cart at golf course). Make sure it is in good shape and secure it if you want.

Find an airdeflector you can put on the top of the trucks roof to move the air up and over the golf cart. My neighbor a few blocks over has a full aluminum one for his 5th wheel.

Back in the day when we had our old Puma 30FQSS and F250, we hauled the EZ-Go in the bed of the truck everywhere. We're in central NC and we hauled that cart in the bed to Disneyworld and multiple beach trips. Probably 5000 miles or more and never had a roof issue at all. No straps or anything.

So as others have mentioned, a ratchet strap or two should be more than enough.

Agree, normal golf cart canopies aren’t going anywhere, but in the spirit of rv.net madness we don’t know that for sure about YOUR golf cart.
However you could do a test drive.
Worst case, I would not be worried about the 60-70mph. But the 110mph when you’re doing 70 and a gust of wind hits it or the 140mph when passing an oncoming semi on a tight 2 laner and you’re both doing 70!

I agree with a couple of ratchet straps front to back. I haven't hauled a golf cart, but have towed a tractor on a utility trailer. The tractor had a fiberglass top that was only attached at the rear to the roll bar and just cantilevered over the front. But two ratchet straps attached to the steering wheel, run up and over the front of the top (one each side), and down the back and secured to the frame of the tractor and the top would ride fine at highway speeds. Since a golf cart top is attached at the front and rear it should be even more secure. Can't comment on the solar panels.

Yup, you see wedge trailers with 20+ of them on all the time going to and from various golf courses. Tied down at the wheels/frame. No consideration for the roof.

Can't speak for the solar panel. That all depends on how well you've attached it.

Putting 10-ply tires on half ton trucks since aught-four.

I know you're asking about the roof, but we had he windshield of a cart fall out while riding on a golf course a couple days ago so be aware that all accessories need to be secured.

I see RVer's hauling them in the back of pickups all the time as well as fleets delivering them on open tractor trailers. Don't appear to be any extra consideration for the roofs.
