What did you do to your truck today?

I love cruising through the "what did you do to your camper today" thread, I figured I'd add a "what did you do to your truck today".

I'm sure that many of you are like me....and your truck that you use to haul your camper gets a lot of special attention to make sure it's in tip-top shape for your adventures.

I'll start out.....

Today I mounted 2 PIAA 520 Fog lights and 2 PIAA Driving lights to my winch bumper, and aimed them.

This evening, I received a box containing torklift stableload bumpstops. Those will have to wait for another day....we've got a blizzard going on here.

Not at all! Remember this is on a F550 so the parts are even bigger than most trucks and you need a lift that can accommodate something approx. 30 feet long and around 19,000+ pounds.

I believe the shop book time for this work was for 10 hours and they discounted my hourly rate too, because I am so nice and good looking! :B

EDIT: Also it should be noted that I am not able to take my truck to a Ford Dealership or a typical Brake Shop due to it's size, 30 feet long, 12'6" Tall and combined weight of truck and Camper is approx. 19,000 pounds. Basically it can only go to a shop for Large Trucks like Semi Trucks or Garbage Truck size. You are not going to find this capability in every town you travel through. Or at least I don't.

Thanks B

It looks like they did a thorough job , every thing new . I have done it on more than a few 350's . It's a lot of work .

My mechanic said my F450 was going to be more than a F350 which implies that the F550 would be high as well. I'm not sure why it's that much harder, but he thinks it will be hours more than a normal change with me supplying the parts. Of course, my wife might have misunderstood since she takes it to the mechanic due to logistics and hours I work.
Absolutely, Different tires, brakes and weight. A Cab Chassis F450 and a PU F350 is very different and probably something that the mechanic is not doing as often as an F350. There was a F350 in the shop getting some spring work done and it and my truck are worlds apart in it's undercarriage.

Brian,
I hear your pain on the brake bill. We priced it out and my husband decided he could do it...and he did. After doing the front, decided what the heck to the rear too. Saved us at least $400. Of course, like always, it will cost me alot of "praise singing".
Thanks. But ask him if he would do this while you guys are on a trip in your Pickup and Truck Camper, then on top of that living in it and where would he get the parts and tools to accomplish this. Welcome to the world I live in with no driveway or garage to work in. As the photo below demonstrates when I was doing a recent DIY on the road.

In preparation for departure for Southern Utah this coming week for 2-3 weeks I sprayed "Salt Terminator" all over the undercarriage of my 2012 F-350 Supercab Ford. The darn Mag Chloride that the western states Departments of Transportation folks are spraying all over the roads is really tough on vehicles. I also again spray painted the truck exhaust system with Ultra High Heat Rust-oleum to slow the rust on it. Weather is great now but rain in the forecast will spray that darn Mag Chloride all of the truck again.

Had the body shop rebend and realign the drivers door window frame that the PO bent bu backing into something. The resultant air gap in the seal really whisted at over 50mph. now it is slient to over 75mph. best $160 I ever spent

frames 1&3 are befor body work shots of the top of the window frame and roof line showing the mis-alignment

Carried it to the dealer for an oil change and tire rotation. I purchased it used and it had 4 small dings in it - two purchased and two I added. The PDR team was at the dealership and they removed the dings. Oh how nice it looks now.

Wasn't today, but this past Saturday. Replaced the Idle control motor and Throttle Position Sensor to resolve a sticking throttle problem (Idle control motor would get stuck retracting when the throttle was let off).

I also use the 7-pin plug but run it to y-cable so I can use the same line for my trailer. You will not get much power for charging or heavy electrical loads, but it is sufficient to trickle charge the TC.
