Hello,
I know this question is one only I can answer but want some input.
Thinking about trading my 2013 2500 hd 6.0 373 ext cab for a 2013 short cab long bed Cummings 3500 single wheel Asian with 410's.
I'm getting 14mpg and 9 pulling my camper.
What do y'all think?
Thanks
Jim

Though many Borg-Warner products were fantastic, I had a 1982 Jeep CJ7 with a BW T5 5-speed that was a TERRIBLE transmission, even running behind a 105hp/210ft-lb carbeurated straight-6.

Well, I don't have a rig but I can offer up my truck's history for fuel economy unloaded for the most part. You can see my city/highway split on here using a formula to weigh what I was driving. Here's the Fuelly link to my vehicle, I'm pretty religous about tracking fuel economy: RAM truck fuel history. Also, here's a link to look at other RAM trucks and maybe their usage can give you some insight on what to expect: other RAM trucks.. Make sure you read their comments/notes on their rigs so you know how they're setup and if they did any towing or not.

Nice app being able to link others also :B I just use another type of fuel app for my personnel use. Proved my lie-o-meter was off but my numbers are a bit better than yours :W Not bragging just stating.
Maybe next year 2014 will be my next new Ram!

Yeah I think I will bite the hook. Drove my 2500 12000 miles in nine months. This truck is much nicer and the best part is the wife loves it.
Thanks guys I will report back.

Your mileage will improve slightly (1 -2 mpg towing and empty). Pulling power will be vastly superior with the diesel. Face it, you currently have 360hp/380tq, and you'd be going to 385hp/850tq.

It will cost you big to trade up though.

I wouldn't do it unless I were going to sell the 2500hd myself. Then it makes sense as you won't lose too much. Lots of ppl would love to save a couple grand and taxes buying an essentially new vehicle private party.

I know I will take a big hit. I tow 7500~ could go up. I'm on the fence. Don't know what to believe on mpg. Plan on keeping it if it's reliable. Like the engine break. Sticker says 342 upgrade 410 or something like that ?

Thanks
Jim

I know you're looking at 13's. But for a point of reference I have a 12 2500 CTD 3'73's and get on average 10.5 towing a 85-9000lb 5'er. Recently on a trip from Redding CA to Bend Or I got 11.9 mpg. Mostly flat the whole way.
Supposedly the 13's get a little better mpg's. I get 17.5 empty running 65 mph on the freeway. I can get 18+ running 55+/- on the hwy. Around town it sucks. But I'm retired and don't do a lot of driving when not camping so for me the in town mpg isn't that big of a deal.
