2017 Super Duty is *****

Wow. Went to drive one yesterday and what a pickup it is. F350 ECSB 4x4 Diesel is what I drove. Tons and tons of power, good braking, amazing interior. Good ride, great capability for hauling and towing. ECSB is perfect size for inner city job sites.

Only three problems with the new truck:
1. Wish the 350 SRW came with an 11.5" rear end not 10.7" like Dodge and GM. I overload on our ranch on a weekly basis.
2. Like the new Duramax, the new engine is too quiet. I don't want a 6.0 clatter, but some noise is reassuring.
3. Too expensive. Holy **** these things cost an arm and a leg. Suppose that's 2017 class 3 truck buying for ya.

I really want my forever truck for my upcoming birthday present to myself. If I had the money I'd buy one of each as the Ford, the Dodge (I'm still calling it that, okay) and Chevy make tremendous 1-tons. If I were going dually the choice would be simple as the wide track front end on the F450 is tremendous, unique and a deal maker for me. But as my daily driver I want a SRW, especially with the F550 tatty but still mostly alive and kicking for the really big jobs.

I hope this post won't get bashed as a waste of time. I merely wanted to show that, unlike all too many here, I'm not a brand worshipping sheep. I've slammed Ford for their 6.0 and 6.4 engine disasters, and for running the same floppy frame for 25 years when the others changed theirs. But now, I think the Super Duty is top of the pile. Engine, frame, interior the whole kit and caboodle is top notch.

It's likely going to come down to what 1-ton SRW 4x4 diesel I can get the best deal on. I know whether it's the 2017 GM Duramx, Dodge Cummins or Ford PSD anyone who owns one is one lucky SOAB.

I'm still towing with my 7.3 but I've got a 2017 6.7 4x4 CC 6.5 as my daily that I literally beat on-18k in the last 3 months and no complaints...the sound thing took some getting used to but no one can tell if I'm in the truck or home when on the blue-tooth now...and I had a lot of trouble getting used to the position of the wheel buttons(I've been driving first gen Supers since 99.5)

I wonder if a "forever truck" really exists? I plan to retire in 4 - 6 years and am wondering when I should pull the trigger on a truck I know I will need. I am 54, so that means that truck would have to last without too many major expenses for a very long time. My drool truck is the F350 diesel DRW. I feel like I am looking at porn every day, its really bad :).

Don't worry, a lot of us still call the Fiat truck a dodge. :B

Fiat heavy trucks are legendary performers so either name is a compliment. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am one of those SOBs. Put my order in for our 2017 F350 SRW Lariat 2 weeks ago. I also didn't go in with brand loyalty but hands down everything about the Ford made it a very easy choice. The price tag sucks but who cares when you get everything you want and have no plans of getting another one for a very long time. No way would I settle for a truck that just didn't fit me for a few thousand less.

Over a year a half later and 26K we are still high five'ing each other over our 2015 Laramie.

Chris

And 5 years and 114k miles and not a single glitch we are still high fiving each other over our 2012 Lariet Super Duty.

My current truck is most likely my forever truck as well.

My main reasoning for the Ram/Cummins is the simpler I6 design is bound to have lower operating costs over the long haul, and this theory has a proven track record. The recent fuel economy test towing 22,800 lbs also supports this. The PSD and to a somewhat lesser extent the Duramax are complex animals.

Secondly, I didn't want to be left holding the bag with a failed CP4 high pressure fuel pump and a trashed fuel system. This issue still exists even on late model trucks and I believe it will become a more widespread problem as the trucks age and get more mileage on them.

JMHO and other opinions may vary.

If Ford doesn't do something about the fuel economy of the 6.7 my next truck won't have a Powerstroke....I'm beginning to think the 1/2 tons will have all the capabilty I'm going to need by the time I'm ready to replace my current truck.

this is where I bought mine last year, they still have a 2016 drw on the lot with the same high capacity tow and 4:30 gears...sort a F450 clone.

BTW, I shopped all 3 brands and they are all equally overpriced. Also I owned a 2008 and 2011, never had any "Floppy Frame" issues, but I don't ask my truck to double duty as a ORT!

1. I've never heard of a rear end measured in inches. What does that mean?

Is it stilled called a PSD?
