2019 Silverado 5.3 vs 6.2 Towing Review

I'm surprised the 6.2 has less towing capacity than the 5.3, but it is what it is.

Fordfishy......if they do, it most likely wont be the L86 6.2 given the fact that GM has claimed for years they do not consider it their go to heavy duty engine due to the aluminum block and other bottom end stuff. It will be an entirely new motor. They could of popped the 6.2 into the HD's at any time easily...its almost a direct bolt in / plug and play replacement as it stands for the 6.0, with hardly any re-engineering required to slap it in there.

Personally I would rather not have the direct injection and Active Fuel Management that comes with the 6.2 on a gasser truck being used as a truck, everything is not about torque and HP numbers on paper where hauling and towing is concerned, but I expect to be spoon fed it eventually by GM unless I pick up the F350 SRW I have been eyeing up.

Ya, if one were going for the 1500, I would do the same, its a no brainer, even with the highly overpriced (for what you get) LTZ or High Country trim package being a requirement to get the 6.2.

A truck, a camper, a few toys, but most importantly a wonderful family.

I did to.A.fellow.That has.the 6.2 the other day. He was very pleased with power etc towing a 6k boat, up and over Stevens Pass here in Washington state. Gets 22mpg on freeway....15-16 in town..not bad empty.

Is there a written commentary version around.
I did to.A.fellow.That has.the 6.2 the other day. He was very pleased with power etc towing a 6k boat, up and over Stevens Pass here in Washington state. Gets 22mpg on freeway....15-16 in town..not bad empty.

While the 5.3L has maximum towing/payload of 11,600 lbs/2,190 lbs versus the 6.2L 12,200 lbs/2,100 lbs I have to imagine the 6.2L with a 10 speed transmission and 20% more torque/HP is going to pull better than the 5.3L.
