Approaching 200K miles and still going strong !

The now "old Dodge" speedometer says 192K miles and still going strong. Just got another set of H-load rated tires to haul the heavy camper. ( I actually think I have an additional 3% added to this total because of the 19.5" wheels on the truck) The truck has been relatively trouble free. Many of the miles are with the TC, but unlike many here, it is loaded and unloaded a lot and used as a daily driver.

When at the big Truck camper show in Ogallala, Nebraska a few years back we talked to a dealer who said he had a LOT more miles than this... so on we go, keep up the maintenance and "let er run"!



How many others here have high mileage vehicles ? Perhaps 200K miles is NOT really high mileage for a diesel truck TC carrier.

Have any of you Cummins owners ever had the valves adjusted?

At how many miles?

How far out of adjustment were they?

Only 145K miles on our Dodge. Just getting warmed up. Here is what we replaced:
lift pump @ 92K mi.
brakes @ 76K and 141K
Batteries @ 98K and 140K (not many miles on the rig the last 6 yrs. The orig. Delco starting batts went 6 years)
No engine work. Orig. clutch, trans. and driveline. Orig. injector pump and injectors.
My neighbor bought a used '01 Dodge CTD and now has 366K miles on it and it is a strong beast.
There is someone on here that is approaching 500K miles on their Cummins. About time for a valve job, no?

Yup...

95 HD GMC, Gas, 4X4.....Engine at 56K, Transmission at 75K...just about every piece of running gear during that time. TRADED for 2000 Chevy HD, gas, 4X4. About the worse tow vehicle I ever owned. Only had it for 30K miles. Wrong gearing for towing. Engine would blow its brains out towing 6K trailer up mild eastern hills. Can't remember how many thing went wrong with that truck. No Obama Motors ever again!

Bought a Ford HD, 4X4, gas...2004. Pick-up bed mounts rotted out in just a couple years. I welded up new mounts and then brake lines and transmission lines rotted out. Near killed me when brake lines went. Great tow vehicle, but I had the opportunity to tow my motorcycle race trailer with a Dodge diesel while my truck was in for a blown transmission! Couldn't believe how great the Dodge Diesel was. Where all the other trucks struggled on big hills, the Dodge didn't even downshift! And returned 15mpg!

With lots of research it seemed 2006 was the best year. Mercedes owned them, Gertag breathed on the transmission issues, no particulate filter, last year of the 5.9.....and with diesel fuel at an all time high when I was looking, I bought a beautiful, two year old used truck with 40K on it for $20,000! Happy as a clam!

Wow you guys kill me!

Bought my 03 Chevy Duramax new in Nov. 2002 it now has almost 179,000 miles.

It's had two sets of driveline universal joints.
Two rebuilds of the instrument cluster.
Two new power brake boosters.
One new right front hub.
Eight rebuilt fuel injectors.
Has a longtime electrical glitch with the brake warning indicators.
(To avoid tripping the brake alarm I must start the truck without touching the brake peddle)

Hoped to have this truck longer even paid cash for it.

Should have bought a Dodge. But that Duramax sure Was nice and quiet.

Had an 89 Dodge Cummins 3/4ton 4x4 purchased as a ranch truck in 1991. It had 23,000 when we got it and had 421,000 on it when we traded it off. Regular service and a Kelderman air ride were all that was done to the truck and it was used pulling trailers and bouncing around the ranch off road. I do have to admit there was not much left of the body by then.

Only 95K on my 2005, but it has been my weekly mountain ski vehicle since new and went from towing a TH to hauling a TC with trailer in tow. Almost all the miles have been during towing, hauling or inclement weather.

I have 190,000k on my 2001 dodge diesel dully 4x4 just normal maintance which I do myself. Mostly highway with camper and towing my Chevrolet tracker wheels down. Many more miles to go.

We're also on track for some serious mileage. New Chevy purchased April 2013, just passed 10,000 miles, all leisure miles mostly with the camper on board. At that rate, we'll hit 100K in about 3 years. Glad to hear yours is holding up well and that it's providing good times like ours.

I have a ol' 1995 12v with 270K still going strong. Body condition not so much.

My 06 2500SRW Diesel Dodge has 180K......Only issues so far is a waterpump at 125K and a fan clutch at 170K......Brake Pads (no rotors yet), Oil changes with Rotella Synthetic every 10K miles, fuel filter every 20K. New tires every 60K....That's it! I've never adjusted valves or done anything to the transmission. Probably should do a fluid change on the transmission...

You see on that Dodge forum that there are a number of million mile Dodge Diesels....and almost all of them have been pulling heavy loads for all those miles.

Simply NOTHING like a Dodge truck. Much better, inherently stable inline 6, much heavier chassis, solid front axle in 4X4, Huge pumpkin rear end.....Built like TRUCKS should be!

Not high miles, but many really good miles.

I only have 110,000 on my 2003 Dodge, about half of those hauling the camper. It has been the best vehicle I have ever owned and I am looking forward to putting many more miles on it.

Looking at the pictures of our trucks, maybe good color selection has something to do with it!:B
