Bed Lifter

"Give me a lever long enough, and I shall move the world.

Has anyone got any ideas for some kind of extended handle to aid in raising the platform bed to access the storage underneath? I know that many use a combination of lift struts, but I am thinking of a two or three foot long handle extending from the foot of the bed. It was easy, until I got a new mattress. I don't get in there often, just being lazy.

If the end of your bed platform isn't blocked just add a couple of cabinet doors and eliminate the need to lift the platform at all. :B

After measuring the area I had to work with I realized the cabinet door beside the microwave oven was exactly the size I needed so I had my dealer order 2 more. The trick with a new trailer is to do this soon after purchase before the manufacturer changes interior decor and still has replacements that properly match the rest of the trailer.

I've done this mod with our previous trailer as well and in each case intentionally avoided drawers which waste space taken up by the sliders.

I realize the "stick" comments are extremely funny, but they do not come close to answering the OP's request for help "lifting" the bed. The propping part is the easy part as we have sticks in Illinois and Texas.

The new mattress defeats the lifts but they still help. Brooms may die but the sticks live on. Cut one to length, lift bed, insert stick, get or place stuff under bed lift bed, remove stick, drop bed. Store stick where you find it handy.

Here in Virginia we call them "Sticks." They can actually fall off a tree and bump your head. Maybe that's what you need, not a bump on the head, a stick.

Cut a groove in the pedestal and slip an appropriate size piece of pipe into the groove. Pull out and lift up. The pipe end on the floor, under the bed, should give you plenty of leverage. The pipe would slip back under the pedestal out of the way when not in use.
