Bike rack for truck

I'm trying to figure out an option for a bike rack for the back of my truck since I don't want to have one attached to the bumper of the TT (given what I've read on here). Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get one or how to make one? Suggestions on other bake carrying ideas would be okay too.

I made my own "bike tights" at work and mounted them staggered on a 2x6 that lays in the bed of the truck. Staggering lets you mount the bikes close together without the handle bars and seats touching each other. I have two bikes on each side of the bed leaving the center open for other gear and the front wheels go between bikes and bed of truck.

And with the pvc rack you can take it out of your truck at the camp site and use it there. Helps keep some of the bikes off the ground.

I made one like this.

I put 2 Ts on the bottom of the stand and jam the T's into two of the holes for the table legs in the toy hauler. A couple straps later and I'm off.

I don't have one of these yet, but it is on my "wish list". It says is will hold 6 bikes. I hope the link works, if not search for softride Shuttle Pad.

You can buy a truck pad (http://www.dakine.com/p/bike/pick-up-pads/pick-up-pad---large?clr=002)and hang the wheels over the tailgate. I squeeze 5 bikes in the truck bed of my lil Tacoma. If you need a picture of it to understand, check this link out: http://forums.mtbr.com/car-biker/dakine-pick-up-pad-764620.html And if you don't want to buy a $100 truck pad, you can use a thick blanket to protect the tailgate.

Lantley, did you purchase that rack or make it? Sounds like a good idea. Oops - sorry. Should have visited the sites first. :S

You may want to try a tongue mounted rack. I believe they are the best solution. No need to drag dirty bikes inside. No need to disassemble bikes. Bikes are always safely in view. There is no bouncing.
I am currently using the same rack with my 5'er.

Kids' bikes go in the trailer, adult bikes are wedged into the bed with the firewood, dogs and whatever else the kids have to bring.

One of my winter projects is going to be adding fork mounts on the pickup toolbox to carry the adult bikes more securely.

I use a pad on the tailgate and can fit 5 bikes on half the width. Its made by Thule and looks like this.

Here is wht I use: Yakima Beddy Jo Truck 2 Bike Rack

It is held against the tailgate by triangular shaped wedges that fit into the hinge well. No drilling requires and works with bed liners. You open the tail gate, set the wedges in th hinge well, and shut the tailgate. Works great - and I think you can order more fork vises - which can be moved.

I haul two bikes plus a lot of other stuff.
