Bummer. Gas tanks in F150s

New truck. Just dug through the owner's manual & discovered I only have a 26 gallon tank. You can get a 33 gallon with the max tow package. I have the standard tow package. They listed the tank capacity on the window sticker on vehicles I bought in the past, not any more unless you have the upgraded option ;(

If you can't tow at least 250 miles without stopping I'd look into changing it out. You bought a new truck, what's a little more $$$ to make things better.

It’s honestly one of the more annoying things mfgs STILL do, is put little dinky fuel tanks in fuel hogging vehicles that are designed to perform tasks that yield extremely poor fuel mileage.
It’s about cost for sure. If x % of people use not as much fuel, it’s not a big deal to them. But for fcks sake, at least put big tanks in big trucks. Please......

How on earth would you discover this after the fact buying a new truck?
Max tow, Max payload, Max fuel capacity or no deal.

It was a happy coincidence when I discovered my 2009 had a 36 gallon tank. It's great to look at the dash and see "640 miles till empty".

I hear you, though. 26 gallons means only 442 miles of range @ 17 mpg. I hope your new truck gets better mileage than 17 mpg!
I think he's more concerned about the distance he'll get while towing rather than unloaded.

Hm, good point. Say he gets around 10 mpg towing, that's about 100-110 miles less on a 26 vs 36 gallon.

Sorry. Misread values 36 gallons is indeed the upgraded gas tank. The Supercrew has the 26 standard, the regular cab and super cab models only have a 23.

And, yes, capacity for towing is my concern. Haven't towed yet, break in is 1000 miles, haven't needed to yet. My Explorer went from 20.5 mpg interstate 65-70 mph to 11.1mpg towing at 65mph. Expecting a similar mpg drop.

It is a surprisingly expensive option. I do enjoy my 36 gallon tank but in the long run you may be better off with the cash. I have on F150 with the smaller tank that is frequently used to pull a horse trailer and it really hasn't been that bad to live with. My brother that only rarely pulls trailers is quite satisfied with the small tank.

I guess that you are supposed to know what the standard tank size is and that is what you get if it is not listed in the options.

Agreed. I have to stop every couple hours anyhow. Now there are times when dragging the trailer deep into the mountains that I really wish I had a larger tank, but have yet to absolutely need it. I've brought 10 - 15 gallons in gas cans on occasion, but haven't had to use them.

I like to stop and stretch every couple hundred miles anyway.

My 2013 does as well. Not fun to fill that thing up. But then. It will take me all the way to the beach with out stopping for gas. So that is a big plus
