Chevrolet Navigation

Anyone have the factory navigation on their Chevrolet? How is it compared to Garmin? I hate the navigation system in my wife's Honda Odyssey, and figure why spend the money for the factory option if I'm going to end up using the Garmin anyway.

My 2009 3500HD has nav and the back up camera. THe camera image is on the NAV screen.

I wouldn't have it any other way

The NAV is very useful. A GPS sitting on top of the dash never stays put

The wife's factory nav system stopped playing some of her CD's. Stopped buy the dealer they checked it ordered a new on and will swap them out when it gets in. Try that with an after market, when the Pioneer in my truck stopped working the shop that sold it to me, told me they would have to send it back! They told me I should have it back in 4 to 6 weeks. I put the factory radio back in and the Pioneer got chucked in the trash, waste of $300.

The factory systems rival all but the extreme high end systems IMO.

I understand that these radios continue to progress in technology. I have been lucky to have them and need to evaluate their functions.

Your service advisor at the dealer should be able to assist. GM also has some specialist that are available to assist customers.

Not tech savvy.:S Sooo many pages of instruction. I am due for the first service. I will have someone explain it to me. From what I know now, it ain't worth the extra money.

Yes, you can still call OnStar with a Nav Radio. However, if it was a 2014 Impala which has the MyLink Radio, and you must call OnStar, then it is not the Nav radio, just the MyLink. Also, with the 2014 MyLink Radio, the OnStar Turn by Turn directions show in the MyLink Radio.

I have the factory NAV system in my Dodge and I find it easier to use than my phone or my wife's portable Garmin. The turn-by-turn directions show up on the instrumnet panel right under the speedometer which make is easy to see at a glance and the volume on the radio automatically turns itself down when the nice navigation lady is giving me directions. Plus there is no need for additional cords or mounting hardware and no fear of it being stolen or lost when not in use.

I can vouch for the new models...still terrible. I hate my NAV unit as well. For no good reason it will take me down side streets, back ways and other impossible places to get out of. I have tried every setting and option to adjust this, still sucks.

Voice guidance , new maps 4 times a year free, voice recognition, install able poi files for speed cameras and low clearence, 7 inch screens and add on backup cams , upgrade memory - garmin.

I have the Nav in my '09 Chevy and it is a love/hate relationship.
It was a $2000 option back then so for $700 now, that is more like it.
The graphics on the new Nav is 10 times better than their old (mine) units.
The MyLink on the '14 is nice. However you can't get it on the HD's until '15 model year.

I have OnStar on my '09 so if there is any question I just call them and they download the info directly into the radio. That in my opinion is worth it.

I like factory because you get a large screen and when I am driving down the road I don't want to have to strain to see a little picture.

How much does it cost to update the maps? that would be something to consider. On my 07 T&C the map update is around $120 last I checked, which was 5 years ago still has the map disc from 07. I don`t know what it is now. with my current Garmin I bought the lifetime map updates for $100. well worth the $$$$.

However it is nice to have it built in. the radio volume goes down and the Nav voice comes on.

I don't know if I ended up paying for my Nav or not...I just worked the best deal I could for my LTZ 2500 and it came with the NAV.

I find it somewhat useful, but don't use it that much anyway.
