Dave Smith Rant

Does anyone else find searching for a specific vehicle with these folks to be absolutely intolerable?

First off their website if full of annoying popups and constant "chat" invitations. Next, there seems to be some certain order of operations to follow when entering vehicle criteria to get results. I tried 3+ times and most of my list just gets erased when I get results.

So, with that frustration I opt for the "chat" option and they are completely lost. I gave the person a very basic list of "must haves" and they just kept giving me trucks that were not even close. For example, pretty major things like 2WD and 8' box when I'm asking for 4X4 and 6.5" box.

Then, rather than trying to help, they just go into the whole, "So, when is a good time for your to come in and look at our trucks?" Huh? How about you help me find something even close first.

Grrrrrrr.... frustrated!! The prices look good and they supposedly have a good selection. I'm just not sure I'll ever find out for sure.

Dennis Dillon for Ram and Gmc. Prices are on the web unlike Dave Smith and for me when i bought from them, very easy to work with.

I won't deal with Dennis Dillon, EVER again.

Many people who live in the Boise area feel the same way. I would pay full MSRP before I ever set foot in a Dennis Dillon dealership again.

Does a huge Internet sales business.

I was blown away when I visited their facility early this year. The sales staff is HUGE.

I say just pick up the phone talk to a real person. Let them find what you want and email you the info. Be aware their stock moves fast. I was looking at several used Jeep Wranglers, guy told me that once he emails me not to wait long. Sure enough each was sold by the next morning. But what I did get was an on the ball sales rep, no games, but also didn't waste time on me making a decision.

I ordered mine from Dave Smith's commercial side in late 2014 and had great service. If anyone wants to go this route, I will PM them with contact information and what to expect. My contact still works the commercial side and is willing to make things hassle free.

The problem with Dennis Dillon is they quote you prices with all available rebates and discounts you may or may not qualify for. THEN when you get there they tell you you don't qualify for this, that and the other so you will have pay the same price Dave Smith quoted you.

When I bought mine from DS, I inquired about a few trucks they had on the lot. A salesman called back and we ended up finding the truck I wanted. It really wasn't a hassle. It's amazing what they have in such a little town.

They give you the advertised "Sale Price" no questions asked. The "As Low As" price is the one nobody gets. The closest I got to Dillon's price was about $1500 from Larry Miller in Boise. Dave Smith was over $4000 higher. The sales guy at Dillon was straight with me and told me that few qualified for many of the rebates to get to the "As Low As" price before I showed up. Buying it was a simple matter of a test drive to check out the specific truck I wanted and then signing the paperwork.

The only hoop was that I had to get my loan from Chrysler or it would be $1000 higher. They told me I couldn't refi for 6 months but the loan documents had no restrictions in them, so I refied a couple of days later with my credit union to get the lowest possible rate. I think the loan from Chrysler was a percent or two higher.

I purchased our 2009 chev 2500HD from them and got a great deal, the salesman did a great job finding what we wanted. In fact they did not have the truck on the lot, it was still at the factory but scheduled to be shipped. The only thing was they did try and sell you on stuff at the paper signing, no big deal I can say no.

Now two years ago when we purchased our 2013 it was the same deal as the OP had, sending info on trucks that were not even close to what we were looking for and the pricing was no where close to what it had been. We did not purchase from them.

Typical of a business that has been sold. As usual some things change. And if you aren't buying "straight sale" these super priced outfits usually just choke! Just watch change of ownership of RV parks. Also somebody mentioned Blue Dog RV. They now have a huge lot in Sin City, USA on Russell RD. You can see it from I-515.

I was able to match Dave smith price at my local dealer when I got my 2015 Denali. And I knew exactly where the truck would be coming from because it was the only one in a 4 state area that had what I wanted. Guess where my local dealer got the truck from?? Yup, he got it from Dave smith, I saved travel hassle.

And as expected, when I picked it up, the paperwork from the factory showed it being delivered to Dave Smith originally.

We bought from DS in May 2010 after Dave Smith had died. We called and salesman said find Ram we liked, get unit#, and he would give us the OTD price. We called back with stock # and the price was $9k under MSRP. We gave a credit card # for $500 down payment to hold it til we could fly there. The shuttle van picked us up at Spokane airport. Very surprised no price upping or attempts to rip more money from us. The price they gave us is what we paid!! Very sorry to hear things have changed for the worse. It was a pleasure dealing with them and the best buying experience we have ever had. Hope they wake up and see the error of their ways. ( we wanted a 3500 megacab 4x4 and they had 42 of them whereas other dealers were lucky to have one). BTW they recommended the 3500 cuz it was cheaper than 2500 which turned out to be best advice ever.
